And Xiaomi.eu btw makes custom roms for some mediatek phones. And they occasionally make ones for unpopular models if they get enough donations.

JimmyTheGreatest, 25 Jul 2024Why shouldn't users be able to use the features they p... moreThe people who have issues tend to be the noisiest. Lots of battery complaints on this, minus the lemon units, came from people who play games at max settings using mobile data while temps around them are hot. Then proceed to complain about the short battery life. And game optimization also helps. Wuthering waves will turn this into a stove even on low settings, Warzone burns any phones since the engine was meant for PC games while Genshin coasts along medium without the battery graph showing red lines.

Think of the "average Joe" that want to listen to some exotic or classical music during his/her vacation in some distant county/island, without having to burn their limited holiday budget on a few megabytes of music/news...

I do not disagree with you, FM radio is an obsolete technology, just like the 3.5mm jack. But most of the adults in the world still listen to FM radio, so it will still be around for the next 2 - 10 years. I personally never use the FM radio while residing in the EU, but when I'm on vacation abroad, I get completely cut off from mass media in some countries, because they don't have the type of Internet we're accustomed to in the EU. This can be beneficial in a way, one can actually spend more time on socializing with the locals, which is why people choose to travel in the first place!

Like to have precise control over content and DSP toll chain, it's not on casual level for sure. Still miss golden days of radio for good editorial and suprise programmes and a bit of radio dramas but that's long past now anyway. Now it's couple people working at the station and repeating playlists which get boring after couple of days. It's not better and with streaming service's recommendations. I like digging through my big collection and suprise myself.

I never had problem with media consumption on my smartphones, because I always had an unlimited data plan. My problem starts once I leave the EU, because I have to pay for every downloaded megabyte, it's like €10/100 Mbytes in many countries. Nowadays things have changed... There are free WI-FI at most hotels and coffee shops. Nevertheless, it's practical and always nice to be able to turn on the FM radio in the destination countries and listen to their music, all for free. Classical music is always pleasant to have on in FM, without worrying about running out of data while abroad.

You have internet radio's if that helps. I am a bit on the hard side as a long term ASR member. Other than when gardening I listen to radio mostly in car as the most folks do this days. I have analogue tuner on my Yamaha R-N amp but do it very rarely on it in my A/V room.
Grabbed my old SBH52 Sony and Denon AH-D5200 can's, must say Dolby Atmos doesn't sound bad especially wired (trough Apple dongle with Wavelet on costume baked Auto-EQ preset). No 3.5 mm out is a biggest draw back for me but at least now there are good BT dongle's supporting LDAC for not that much money (CS43131based and about 50$) tho without radio.

                    I'm still on stock v1.0.1.0, 1.45mill AnTuTu.
Currently any reason to update? Heard people lost about 100k in AnTuTu after one update.

I have bad experience with Xiaomi updates after my F2 Pro went from great to bad over the years. Remember when game center had a gpu/cpu usage in the sidebar before they removed it and replaced it with a broken FPS counter? (That are still broken to this day in HyperOS)

I really wish Xiaomi could overhaul Game Center back to 2020 and give us the GPU/CPU % usage back.
I saw it a gotten a minor change, but not much to brag about.

ZolaIII, 25 Jul 2024Thing is it doesn't have issues and it's as good ... moreYou don't need a headphones' cable to listen to FM radio, however, the cable will improve reception if you choose to listen to distantly located stations. I used to listen to FM radio in my own city using an old Ericsson mobile, without using a wired headphones. It all depends on how the internal antenna is designed. To this very day, I can't believe phone manufacturers abandoned such a mature, stable, reliable and free of charge feature, that is used by the majority of the adults on the planet. Imagine what would happen in natural catastrophes or war when the Internet get knocked off... There will be no efficient way for emergency services to communicate with the citizens.

Most things you have read are people's head issues like yellowish tint which is K5500 calibration in accurate Pro mode or heating which is normal under heavy load or battery life which is again pretty much standard and average and so on. FM radio is pretty rare this days even on phone's that have 3.5 mm jack and all do I won't say impossible with one without it certainly not good working as headphones cable doubles as FM antenna. I have old Sony BT dongle with FM radio which refuses to die and using it when gardening to listen radio.

I was very close to buying this phone until I kept reading about how much problems it has, so I waited for the Poco F6 to be released. F6 is one of the best phones I bought, the only problem it has is the absence of FM radio.

This was true for like 2014-2016, but they've improved drastically ever since they introduced the Helio G lineup, and even more after the Dimensity lineup.

Now MediaTek are giving Qualcomm a run for their money, in fact they're already beating them right now - most budget phones now use MediaTek SoCs because they're cheaper than Snapdragon, and the Dimensity 9300 beats the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in AnTuTu.

I agree about your stance with custom ROMs though, they've fallen out of fashion since a couple of years ago in a similar manner to jailbreaking iOS. Especially with manufacturers taking increasingly preventive measures to turn away modders, or making sure their devices can't ever be modded whatsoever by increasing security and patching loopholes.
