the hell??? g36??? tear drop screen??? same color choice and back design as the 14 ultra??? who came up with this phone 😭

Well now Xiaomi copying Samsung where a uber low end looks like a top specced flagship in design.
Just like A03s and Samsung S24 for example.
Same from outside different from inside.

The only exception is that only this phone looks like Mi 14 Ultra.
In case of samsung every uber low end phone looks like top specced device even its low end crap. All phones are alike.

AnonD-641645, 10 Feb 2024Xiaomi built their brand from zero to where they are today,... moreHaving good brains for marketing and enough resources for investing on their own brand, doesn't mean that they started from zero.

Xiaomi already had hands on with the then-evolving mobile market with enough resources (considering the 4-year gap between the company formation and the 1st ever smartphone), whereas Nokia had a bunch of former employees who had to start from scratch, and basically was stuck with possibly huge (and yet undisclosed) licensing fees from the parent company's mobile division ruined by Microsoft. They only had 6 months or less, and their challenge was the consistent drop of hardware prices during late 2016. The market at that time was shifting towards compromised build quality with increase in specifications.

The market nowadays is simply a bathtub curve, and the competitive Chinese brands seem to have taken the cheapened hardware costs and lowered build quality for granted.

Ironically, Nokia is ultra-competitive at the moment with its low end phones, which is an unexpected, yet satisfactory move for all general consumers.

I would neither support nor recommend Chinese brands due to their contrasting philosophy from the reason why they started, unless they stick to their core philosophy once again.

On the other hand, the Nokia brand is apparently on the way out. But as for Unisoc chipsets, itel is using these in their new lineups and their prices are very competitive.

what is happening? helio G36 has a one decade old level of performance, like it can't beat snapdragon 810 but they put it in a 2024 phone? redmi's value for money isn't even good for now, I will even bet that this doesn't go more than 20 fps scrolling the home screen of android 13

The Unisoc chipsets may sound odd, but there's UFS storage for all models (except the base model on rare occasions).

Imagine seeing Chinese brands price gouging since the pandemic, and bringing nothing new whatsover to the table. It's completely disappointing for going against their core philosophy of "affordable made even more affordable".

G36 would be a bit lame even at that price. I personally think every new phone nowadays should come with a fingerprint sensor (or more advanced form of biometric authentication) and big cores. Otherwise most 2016 flagship that cost almost nothing used would be better
