Xiaomi Redmi A3 is official with a big 90 Hz display

Xiaomi announced today the ultra-affordable Redmi A3 smartphone. It has a leather-like finish on the back design, a big display with 90 Hz refresh rate, and runs Android 14.

Redmi A3 comes with a Helio G36 chipset, which was the same as the predecessor A2. However, here, RAM is either 3 GB, 4 GB, or 6 GB, as opposed to the 2/3/4 GB options that the predecessor had. The extra memory was clearly deemed enough by Xiaomi to transition the A3 to the full Android 14 instead of the Android 13 Go edition its predecessors ran.

The Redmi A3 is built around a 6.71” LCD with HD+ resolution. It has 90 Hz refresh rate and a Gorilla Glass 3 on top, and since it can't have a fingerprint scanner underneath, the sensor made its way on the side on top of the power key. The panel also has a waterdrop notch for the 5 MP selfie camera.

There are two shooters on the big circle at the back - an 8 MP main one and some sort of auxiliary snapper that isn't even mentioned in the specs sheet. There is also an LED flash.

The battery has 5,000 mAh capacity and supports 10W charging through the USB-C port. There is also a 3.5 mm audio jack on the phone.

The Redmi A3 has three color options – Olive Green, Midnight Black, and Lake Blue. The base 3/64 GB version costs INR7,299 ($87/€82), 4/128 GB is INR8,299 ($100/€93), and 6/128 GB goes up to INR9,299 ($111/€104).

Xiaomi will start selling the phone on February 23 at mi.com, Flipkart, and select Mi Home retail stores across India.

I don't think that this was intended as a main phone but rather a second extra if your main one fails. It can be a good first phone for kids. The specs could be better yes but what do people expect for this price? If you double the price or...

but that 90hz is going to be pointless at end of the day. a decent processor like helio g88 can keep up with 90hz well.
