- not everyone is smart enough to attach storage devices into their WiFi routers and configure them
- cloud storage is concerning, especially in practicality and privacy/security. What would you do if you stored all your family photos or documents on a cloud server when suddenly the cloud provider service goes down right at the moment when you need them (like the Amazon Web Services servers being down just a week ago)? Would you actually agree to Google/Microsoft/etc. using your photos as AI training data, and do you want them to take down all the items you have on the cloud for some reason despite you being fully sure that your content does not violate their Terms of Service?
- using adapters or drives that use USB-C will take away the only USB-C port on your phone, which means no wired headphones, no plugging in a game controller, and even no charging at all
meanwhile the only flaw a dedicated microSD slot has is slow speed (and it's most probably better than trying to transfer files to flash drives or external drives on USB 2.0 phones), and you can use the microSD card whenever or however you want without worrying about if it takes away essential ports or time. A microSD card is also cheap - it doesn't take much to get a 1TB card, and you don't have to pay monthly or yearly fees for a service. And, most importantly: you can store whatever you want for however long you want, without having a 3rd-party control you from above or behind.

AltFantasy, 28 Oct 2025do you think everyone automatically has the money to buy 1T... moreSD card also costs money, and even If you dont have sd card support on you phone, It doesnt mean you cant use external storage(sd card with adaper, flash disk, external hdd or ssd, use online storage or plug a HDD or SSD to your router and connect to It over wifi).
There are plenty options to chose from.
If I had to choose, I would go for the highest capacity, but 1TB options are available for highend phones only.

erh, 27 Oct 2025The radio feature could be useful in an emergency.eh, fair enough. To be honest though in an emergency you're better off with a dedicated radio, it's more reliable and will last longer compared to a smartphone, especially when electricity is cut off.
