Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro+ (Global) review

GSMArena Team, 20 January 2025.

Competition

Unfortunately, the global Redmi Note 14 Pro+ gets a modest price hike, putting it in a rather tough position. The upgrade over last year's Redmi Note 13 Pro+ is also modest, but the competition never sleeps. The launch price is €479, slightly above last year's €449.

We found a handful of similarly priced alternatives and some cheaper options too. Interestingly, there's some homegrown competition like the Xiaomi 14T, which is quite frankly a better phone in pretty much every aspect. Except for the not-so-fast charging.

The OnePlus Nord, the Honor 200 Pro and the Motorola Edge 50 Pro are also in the same price bracket and all three offer superior performance and camera experience. The Nord might be a better choice for battery life, while the 200 Pro excels in camera performance. And even Xiaomi's own Poco X7 Pro will offer better battery life and performance at a lower price than the Redmi Note 14 Pro+.

Verdict

As this review is drawing to a close, we are left with mainly positive impressions. There are quite a few things to like in the Redmi Note 14 Pro+, like the extra durable build, the very nice screen, the new battery chemistry, the solid performance with awesome thermal stability, the great video recording and the very fast charging.

However, the features that matter are the same as in last year's model, which is considerably cheaper now. We hoped for better battery life, better photo quality and a bigger performance bump but these things have not changed in the new model a full year later. And there are phones in this price range that can offer you an even better chipset and longer battery life.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 14 Pro+ review

The Redmi Note 14 Pro+ does not have any glaring issues, but it fails to stand out. And it is about to face some stiff competition in this price segment and the odds will not be in its favor. However, as prices will inevitably decrease in the coming months, it may become a more appealing option to explore so it gets a cautiously optimistic nod from us.

Pros

  • Extra durable build quality, IP68 rating.
  • Nice display with HDR10+ and Dolby Vision support.
  • High-density battery with improved performance at sub-zero temps and -20C charging.
  • Blazing-fast charging.
  • Solid video recording and excellent low-light photos from the main camera.

Cons

  • Expensive at launch.
  • Performance is not competitive in the segment, UFS 2.2 storage either.
  • Battery life is underwhelming.
  • Daylight photo quality is largely unimpressive.
  • Doesn't come with the latest Android 15/HyperOS 2 out of the box.

Watch your step here as you might actually want a flagship phone instead of mid range one.

Make sure that there is no pending download os update, it could be the reason.

Despite the same main camera sensor the camera results definitely seem worse, especially in daylight photos. In fact the Redmi note 13 pro and pro+ last year seemed to have better camera performance
