Xiaomi Redmi Pad Pro review
Display
The Redmi Pad Pro packs a 12.1-inch IPS LCD with a resolution of 2560 x 1600 pixels (249ppi), making for 16:10 aspect ratio. The display has 12-bit color depth (up to 68B colors), 120 Hz refresh rate, 240 Hz touch sampling and Dolby Vision streaming.
The protection is handed by a large sheet of Gorilla Glass 3.
Xiaomi promises 600 nits of maximum brightness and it turns out the tablet actually delivers more than that. The Redmi Pad Pro's display goes up to 538 nits in manual mode and 654 nits in auto mode when in bright light - great numbers for a tablet screen.
The minimum brightness at point white was 2.3 nits.
Refresh rate
The Redmi Pad Pro screen supports up to 120Hz refresh rate. You get four modes for controlling that - Default (read Auto), 60Hz, 90Hz and 120Hz. The two middle options set a ceiling for the height of the refresh rate, while the Default and 120Hz modes act exactly the same, allowing the panel to go all the way to its maximum speed, but still scale down when not needed.
The display supports 30Hz, 48Hz, 50Hz, 60Hz, 90Hz, and 120Hz steps. However, oddly, when the screen is idling it usually uses the maximum refresh rate allowed by the system. But across various apps we saw 30Hz (video playback), 48Hz (streaming), 50Hz (streaming), 60Hz (videos and apps), 90Hz (some system apps and games), and 120Hz in benchmarks and system UI.
HDR and streaming
The tablet supports Dolby Vision streaming and offers such an option in compatible apps like Netflix. There is no HDR10 support and hence there is no HDR10 streaming on YouTube.
Battery life
As we already mentioned the Redmi Pad Pro is powered by a large 10,000mAh battery. It scored an Active Use Score of 9:36 hours - it did excellent when it comes to calls and video streaming, but wasn't as good when it came to web browsing and gaming. The overall result is about average for the class, but depending on what your priorities are you mileage will vary.
Charging speed
The Redmi Pad Pro supports 33W wired charging, but you will need to shop for the appropriate adapter as Xiaomi is shipping the Pad Pro without a charger.
We did our battery charging test with an original 33W Xiaomi power adapter. It recharged 15% of the dead battery in 15 mins, 28% in 30mins and about 60% in 60 mins. A full charge took exactly 2 hours.
Speakers
The Redmi Pad Pro has four speakers with support for Dolby Atmos. Those are placed two by two on the shorter sides behind long dotted grilles.
Having watched numerous videos and listened to music on this tablet, we can safely say the sound is well balanced, with good bass and overall rich presentation.
The Redmi Pad Pro scored a Very Good mark on our loudness test, suggesting you'll rarely need to push it to the highest levels to hear it.
Use the Playback controls to listen to the phone sample recordings (best use headphones). We measure the average loudness of the speakers in LUFS. A lower absolute value means a louder sound. A look at the frequency response chart will tell you how far off the ideal "0db" flat line is the reproduction of the bass, treble, and mid frequencies. You can add more phones to compare how they differ. The scores and ratings are not comparable with our older loudspeaker test. Learn more about how we test here.
