Xiaomi Redmi Pro 2 to sport MediaTek's Helio P25 SoC, not the Snapdragon 660

Vlad, 13 March 2017

Earlier today we heard a rumor saying that Xiaomi is getting ready to unveil the Redmi Pro 2 this month. According to past leaks, this should come with the yet-unofficial Snapdragon 660 chipset from Qualcomm and just a single rear camera, unlike the original Redmi Pro which was the first Xiaomi phone to boast a dual camera setup.

However, a new leak originating in China today comes to contradict that. The new report claims that the Redmi Pro 2 will stick with the unique selling point represented by the dual rear camera, thus being a true successor to the first Pro. It may employ two 12 MP sensors on the back, the rumor goes.

Furthermore, it will be powered by MediaTek's Helio P25 and not the SD660. This SoC has an octa-core CPU that consists of four Cortex-A53 cores clocked at up to 2.5GHz and another four that only go up to 1.6GHz. It comes with the ARM Mali-T880MP4 GPU and support for Cat.6 LTE.

The Redmi Pro 2 will allegedly have an all-metal design, 2.5D curved glass on top of the display, and two versions: one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, the other sporting 6GB and 128GB, respectively. The former is apparently going to be priced at CNY 1,599 ($231 or €217 at the current exchange rates), while the latter will be sold for CNY 1,799 ($260 or €244).

The new smartphone is expected to become official at the end of this month, though a specific date hasn't been outed for the event yet.

As I said, their chips aren't worth being in any device if they can't make any good chip for two years.
