Xiaomi wants to ship 90 million phones this year
Xiaomi is aiming for a record this year – shipping 90 million phones. This will far exceed what the company managed in 2016 (58 million) and even its strongest year to date, 2015 (70 million).
To reach these impressive numbers, the company has been catering to the entry-level market with phones like the new Redmi 5A (which starts at just CNY 600/$91).
The company’s more upmarket devices have been selling well too, the company moved a record 10 million phones in the month of September alone. This has been enough to propel Xiaomi to the #2 spot in China – behind Huawei, but ahead of Oppo and Vivo. CEO Lei Jun wants to recapture the position of top smartphone maker in China in 2020.
