YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki announces she will step down from her role

YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, one of the most prominent women in the world of tech, has just announced that she will be stepping down from her role. In a letter addressed to YouTube employees, Wojcicki explains her reason for stepping down as CEO is to focus on her family, health, and passion projects.

She will be succeeded by Neal Monhan, who’s worked closely with Wojcicki for many years and has worked under her at YouTube since 2015. Monhan first joined Google in 2007 with the DoubleClick Acquisition and eventually rose to become Senior Vice President of Display and Video Ads. He eventually became YouTube’s Chief Product Officer in 2015 and has led YouTube’s Trust and Safety team.

Susan won’t be leaving YouTube just yet. Her letter explains that she will be supporting Monhan through the transition and will continue to work with YouTube teams, coaching team members, and will meet with creators. Over the long term, Wojcicki “agreed with Sundar to take on an advisory role across Google and Alphabet” where she will offer guidance and counseling across Google’s businesses.

Susan Wojcicki was the one who rented her garage for Page and Brin to start Google, she would eventually become an employee of Google a year later.
