ZTE Axon 7 will receive Android 7.0 Nougat update in January

Vlad, 10 November 2016

ZTE's Axon 7 has so far managed to do pretty well in the market, playing OnePlus' game of offering very good specs in a package that's priced like a mid-ranger. The Axon 7 is however still running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, so you may be wondering when (or if) to expect an update to the newer and tastier Nougat.

Thankfully, ZTE's German arm has actually answered that question today, through its Twitter account. The company is announcing that the Axon 7 will receive an update to Android 7.0 Nougat at some point in January 2017.

That's certainly not the fastest turnout for a new Android release, but it's not bad either - provided that ZTE keeps its promise and doesn't delay the software. There's no telling exactly what ZTE will be putting inside its interpretation of Nougat yet. For example, we don't know if ZTE's Nougat software will look the same as the Marshmallow-based build that the Axon 7 is currently running, or similar to that, or completely different. But there's still time for those things to be revealed before January.

Axon 7 4GB/128GB from Aliexpress is fantastic. Still waiting to get mine though. I hope they have an AOSP ROM instead.

January is so far off... but it seems like most manufacturers are having trouble with Nougat. I wonder why.
