Buttons Up, 22 Aug 2013Hi Debb. Having owned and used the phone for 24 hours now, ... moreThanks ... not too encouraging findings, I must say. But this is an OS under construction. May be the OTAs will gradually improve it. I do not mind though the likeness to Symbian (is was one of the simplest OSes ever). Regarding the speed/ laggyness, well it is an entry level phone (it's a ZTE after all!), so expected.

Hope the battery consumption is decent.

Debb, 22 Aug 2013Review please ... from anyone owning this phone ... battery... moreHi Debb. Having owned and used the phone for 24 hours now, I could say that it somehow feels as if I was using a phone with a Symbian OS. If you have been accustomed to high-end smartphones, you would definitely notice the sluggishness.

The web browser is decent, but while browsing I would often find myself tapping on the screen several times before something actually happens. Either it's because of the phone being slow or because there's something wrong with the screen, I just don't know. Might be the latter because I would often make typos while composing a text message when I would normally be spot on with my other phone.

Was advertised as able to handle 32GB micro sd cards so I put one in. Put music on the memory card, about 800+ tracks. The music player refreshed afterwards and showed the right number of tracks. The problem is that the music player crashes 5 to 10 seconds into any track.

Speaker seems to be loud. Call quality is clear for me.

That is all I can say about the ZTE Open right now. But I could definitely say that the fOS needs to be improved still, as features look half-baked to me.

As everybody says, it's an entry level phone and it's not overpriced.

Can anybody tell me how many colours are in the screen? Is it 65k, 256k, 16M?

I can't find this info anywhere on the web.

Would like to see this phone with Gorilla Glass and a better camera. Otherwise, great job.

I received mine in the post today.
It came with a 4GB SDCard, not 2GB.

I like the concept. The device looks nice too. I do not have ANY problem with the stated screen size, chipset, RAM or battery)as I fully understand it is an entry level smartphone replacement. I would have only preferred a higher screen resolution (to the tune of 200 ppi would have been enough, but again, that would eat up battery).

They should make this one made available in India before the festival season i. e. October. Improvements can follow afterwards. I am waiting eagerly.

Got one from ZTE Open's Ebay store with free shipping to my home. I have no illusions that this is anything but an entry level phone, but nice for a back up phone, or to play around.

A Freedom model for Cell-Phones(true property ownership).
Imagine, a device that I won't just pay for ("own to rent" the opposite of "rent to own") but I will actually own it without Apple, Google or Microsoft telling me what I can do with it. Sign me up!
It's my patriotic duty to buy one of these.

Anonymous, 12 Aug 2013Why do they need to make the first Firefox OS phone so powe... moreBecause Firefox os is HTML5 based so it is not resource hungry like android. But at-least they should add good camera and screen.

Firefox OS is targetted as a budget smartphone, though, like the first S60 touch phones, they might be under spec'ing it a bit too much...

I just hope that the OS is light enough to run well with 256MB of RAM without cutting too much in the features...

Battery and screen could be a tad better for the price as well....
