Loving my new ZTE Open C :)

It's not the fastest, biggest, fanciest phone ever - not by a long shot. But I'm loving it.

I'm enjoying the FirefoxOS marketplace that isn't controlled by Google, Apple or Microsoft. It all feels free-er and more open than any other phone.

A lot of people complain (or will do) that "there's no angry birds/temple run/ etc" but i think they miss the point. This is a budget phone, but you can still browse website, look at emails, (sadly you can still) look at Facebook but nothing's perfect ;)

FirefoxOS Still has a little way to go but its nice and easy to use and still very resposive on this slower phone.

    Overall: 9/10

Hello, I have bought the ZTE OPEN C from eBay Germany and I have flashed the android STOCK ROM which has no google apps, that fine with me. Now I need to swift some apps at my 32 GB SD and this is only possible when the phone is rooted. So, my question is how can I just root the phones stock rom android and keep the Stock rom android? Thx in advance. I am not an expert.

The Firefox O/S is impressive, and should improve with new releases.
The Android Kitkat is a little disappointing in that it does not come with Google play store.
I hope that ZTE will produce an update with G-apps installed (even if this is not free, because Google expect a payment…)

I also have the phone, and while Firefox OS 1.3 runs quite well, I'm missing a number of android apps. I've only managed to install either FirefoxOS OR Android, not both with a choice at boot time, which I#d love to do.

I have ordered this on everbuying.com as the flame phone was already sold out, i am really excited with firefox os, all open-sourced mobile OS, not controlled by any vendor nor bastardized by google.

Anything to promote firefox OS IS A WIN! i am winning to have this phone along side my iPhone, I have android ulephone p6, but its laden with google tracking software.

This will serve ax my mobile wifi hotspot and dev phone as well!

I like the phone, runs well, I rooted phone, installed firefox update from zte website, then install Android 4.4 on sdcard, setup dual boot with firefox, built CWM recovery.

This phone uses swap and well as ram, If it didn't I would have setup swap myself, firefox market lacks apps, very few but hey this is early development for them.

Anyway with android setup on sdcard, I can just boot into android to use apps I want, note you need to root the android 4.4 and install gapps as it doesn't have gapps, but that's not a problem.

Over all for the price this phone is great, dual core running dual OS, not bad at all.

AnonD-117275, 17 May 2014Minimum required RAM for Firefox OS is 256 MB. So 512 MB is... moreBelieve me that 256MB of RAM is NOT enough for FirefoxOS. I had to enable swap file on my Alcatel Fire to handle scenario with buying on-line train ticket with bank account validation code delivered by SMS. I would love to check device with 512MB of RAM. From my experience for everyday use it is possible to comfortable live with 256MB of RAM with zRAM enabled even on single core device (like Alcatel Fire or ZTE Open) but I think that Dual Core device will be much much better solution for 256MB amount of RAM.
On such device as ZTE Open C is with 512MB of RAM and Dual Core CPU when zRAM is enabled effectively you have about 1-1,2GB of RAM without performance impact as it is on single core device like mine one.

Now it's available to UK (and Ireland too I guess) customers through the Ebay UK website for £70 or €92 to Ireland. That would be a decent smartphone cheaper than my current Nokia Asha 300 which I last got for about €110 here. Look forward to more Firefox OS devices being available to buy unlocked in Ireland in the future!

After spending several months with the original ZTE Open, I purchased a ZTE Open C (my son now has my original Open). Wow, what a difference! Significant improvement in screen quality, touch responsiveness, speed, and even the camera quality. No, it's still not going to have the finesse and wow factor of a top-end Galaxy or iPhone, but if you're looking for an amazing price/performance ratio, this is it. No contract, just $99 for an unlocked phone that works on the GSM networks. I'm really sold. Man, this reads like a paid advertisement. Sorry. I'm just delighted to have such a good smart phone on the cheap. Does everything I need it to and is cheap enough to qualify as disposable.
