I'm just wondering if anyone could tell me which of the two are better?? The Blackberry 8820, or the 8320?? I've been looking at getting a blackberry and am going to get one with wifi, but after reading the specs, still don't know which one to go with. Any thoughts?

Got this fone since the first day it came out and like some other people said, the wifi has me sold on the phone. I work at a college and even in basements, i get full signal because the whole place has wifi. I just put skype on my phone and it is working great. So now i got a cheap plan through t-mobile then use wifi to make international calls at $29 for the whole year. If u really want to make alot of calls and have ur email on the go, this blackberry seals the deal big time and it is so small. my only problem is the placement of the memory card but i never remove mine so it is all good.

Can I use the phone alone for the WiFi but have no network/service on it? Like, if I was to cancel my contract with T-Mobile, can I still use the phone for the WiFi to go online?

As a Blackberry, it's got the best keyboard of all of them. I really like the UMA when I've got WiFi coverage, what was a surprise is that when my 8320 detected a T-Mobile WiFi Hot Spot in a lounge, it just picked it up and I was able to "tether" my computer to it and had WiFi access, even though I didn't subscribe to the T-Mobile HotSpot and just used my data plan on my mobile.

I've had my Curve 8320 since the release date and overall I think the phone is very good.

Yes, the keyboard is a little small and the lack of 3G is a bit disappointing, but the WiFi and UMA more than make up or that in my mind.

I have used the Nokia e61 and the other Blackberry models and I find they're generally about the same for the average user. And let's not get into the whole 3G discussion because of my comment. Blackbery has never been about streaming media or high speed data, though the market is calling for it more now and I think we're seeing RIM move into that more now.

The UMA is the real selling feature for me on this device. The calls through the WiFi are as good if not better than the calls through the regular cell towers. Not to mention I have signal in my home now where my signal has always been spotty at best.
Add to that the ability to connect it to Wifi hotspots elsewhere in the world and this phone truly brings new meaning to the whole "one global phone" idea.
Before anyone asks - yes, i have tested the capability at various hotspots that require authentication or an account to access. The only trick to it is that you use the Manage Connections menu to turn off the mobile network leaving the Wifi on. Then use the Set-up WiFi to connect to the network and then the browser for authentication. Then turn on the mobile network right after.

Back to the phone. Overall the phone is great. Yes, it lacks the hot swappable memory card, the 3G and streaming media capabilities of other smartphones on the market, but it more than makes up for it in other ways. I have no doubts that future models will continue to improve and become more and more exciting.

Data backup prevents full wifi service. had trouble with internet to install certificates to fix as page to download would not load. wifi is great. keyboard a little small but functions great. viewing of spreadsheet greatly improved and can scroll through them now. supports 4GB media card but it is not hot swappable but can connect via usb or bluetooth to PC to transfer files.

Simply just less adequate then the 8800 Series.
No G3, poor Net speed, uncomfortable keyboard.
poor color screen. Nokia E61i Simply just kicks it off the world, Check out the Nokia E61i for superior superiority.

The card is not hot swap, because it is underneath the battery so you have to remove the battery to get to it

T-mobile has already aquired through an auction last year, a huge spectrum of 3G band width and has started installing equipment in and around the US. So just wait 3G is coming, and Blackberry is ready to launch thier 3G apps and upgrades. I bought this phone the first day. I'm still blown away by its features including the wifi. My advice, keep your box and packaging so you can sell it to non-techies when the upgraded 3G curve comes out in a few months. If we're lucky, Sonar and RIM will create apps for the use of 3G on BB curve instead of us having to buy an upgraded phone.
