Budget 7" Samsung Galaxy Tab J announced

George, 25 July, 2016

Samsung has just announced the Galaxy Tab J 7-inch tablet in Taiwan. The J letter itself is quite revealing of the device's specs and market position - entry-level.

The tablet packs a 7-inch PLS panel (Samsung's take on the IPS technology) with a resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels for a pixel density of around 216ppi. Computing power comes from a quad-core 1.5GHz CPU inside an unspecified chipset, paired with a modest 1.5GB of RAM. Storage is an equally unimpressive 8GB, but at least that's expandable via microSD.

If you insist on taking photos with a tablet, you can do it on the Galaxy Tab J with the 8MP rear camera (fast f/1.9 aperture, too). On the front there's a 2MP selfie shooter.

The device measures 108.8 x 186.9 x 8.7mm and weighs 289g with a 4,000mAh battery inside. It doesn't support Wi-Fi ac, just b/g/n, and Bluetooth is v4.0, but there is an FM radio receiver on board, at least.

The Galaxy Tab J will be available in Taiwan starting early next month, in white or gold paintjobs. Price is set at TWD 5990 ($185). There's no details on global pricing or availability.

Couldn't agree more! I have never bought a Samsung tablet because the specs just are not good enough! But I buy their flagship smartphones religiously.
