Anonymous, 22 Jan 2017@Anonymus don't say that, I'm using this device for 4 years... moreSorry, I forgot to mention, that I never updated to KitKat, that Android-Version was awful :-( Still on 4.1.2. The razr's were very solid and reliable phones, now everything has glass and breakable stuff everywhere...

You cannot compare this to actual phones. As it came out in 2012 it was a great phone, mine is still working good, even the battery. This was a quality device with a new direction (intel soc) for smartphones and I still like it.

AnonD-583805, 12 Sep 2016Don't buy this phone. I have problem with my XT890 every 15... moreDon't say that, don't buy motorola - well, there is no motorola anymore...sadly -, just because maybe you got a faulty one (can be happen with any brand's product), or you were incompetent for well use that, and overloaded with silly apps, viruses from adverts...etc
The best mobile phone I ever had. My one three and half years old, and is still working properly with the same two days battery time, like it was only one week old (ok, it got a root unlock after the update to kitkat, that is killed the phone, but rooting is solved the problems) More then one year I can't find a replacement phone, because all* on the market is "shity phone" - quoted you.

          * Not all, of course, but I just need a stable, durable good looking phone with min. two days battery life, and the durability and stability is very questionable with the today phones.

Hey, Krika here again, I am now testing the Samsung S7 after having stuck with the Razr i the last four years, and no phone was good enough to replace it. I will report after a few weeks, buts pricewise its not a fair comparison. But I stil chose the Razr i over the S6 last time I was given that one, so will be interesting to see how the S7 holds up. Initial impressions are not good. No speed advantage in daily use/menus, but not slower either. (You must have a fresh Razr i without many heavy apps installed like facebook etc, or else Razr i will be slower) Way worse ergonomics due to size and slippery backside on the S7. Now if the battery is better than the Razr i (At least when the Razr i was new..) I might consider keeping it. This will be interesting. Stay tuned!

All rooting info, Cyanogenmod installation instructions and other development info, can be found at xda developers. I looked all over for instructions, and used XDA and other google findings for how to root and install CM. I thought I would do it easily and in 1 hour, but I had to spend a few hours to be able to do it. So be patient and take your time.
I am now curious if the new Sony E5, with a 4.6" screen, can be a worthy replacement for this phone. It all depends on how long the battery will last I guess. If similar or better to the Razr i, I might give it a go. I've tried all the Samsung Galaxy S3-S6's to find a replacement, but always go back to the Razr i. S7 looks promising, battery is ok, but unit is a little too big and not robust like the Razr i unfortunately. But the Razr i's lifetime is coming to and end either I like it or not. It's been with me since 2012. What a great handset!

Thanks for the advice, but can you specify where to look for relevant tutorials and files when having to re-install android (for those of us that are newbies)?

Motorola Razr I. The absolutely best phone that has come out the last few years. i still use mine like it was 2012 still, but we are in 2016, 4 years later. I just wish something similar came out from Moto, since after testing loads of high end Samsungs, and later Motorola phones, they just aren't as good as the Razr i. Now battery life is starting to be same or even better on the newest flagships, like the Galaxy S7, but you still have to struggle with a larger phone. And you have to pay 10 times as much for these phones compared to a NEW Razr i. It will not last forever with todays usage of apps and internet, since Android version is getting older, but I can have whatever new phone I want from work, but still stick with this one. My 50 cents. Motorola, listen, we want a updated razr i, maximum 4.5" screen, same kevlar design, Amoled screen, faster processor, and even better battery life than the old one. I'd pay Galaxy S7 money for that.

Then possibly get Cyanogenmod, have someone install it for you unless you are a technical person. And then try not to install too many resource hungry apps. I also installed a new battery in mine, and it keeps going for up to two days with normal usage. This was quite simple to do myself.
It could last up to 2.5 days when it was new almost 4 years ago, so only slightly better, but that was Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.

It brought it back to the initial snappiness it had 3 years ago. Its based on Android 4.4, Cyanogenmod 11. Its not as stable as factory ROM, but works for me in daily use, and I am picky how my phone handles. So for now it looks like I can use it at least another year, for a total usage time of close to 5 years! Thats incredible in todays market. Pick a new one up for 100 USD today on Ebay, why spend 1000 USD on a S7??
