Apple iPhone 13 to feature FaceID chip twice as small as the one on iPhone 12 series

Apple is said to finally shrink the notch on its iPhone 13 series. Last month we even saw a leaked screen protector detailing the re-arranged notch looks and now DigiTimes is reporting Apple is looking to source 40-50% smaller VCSEL chips used for 3D mapping face scans for its 2021 iPhones.

The report further mentions that the decreased chip will play a key role in shrinking the overall notch size. The same smaller image processing chip will also be used in future iPads with FaceID. With the smaller notch, Apple will also look to move up the speaker grille near the top of the bezel.

Based on the latest leaks and rumors, the iPhone 13 series will be both thicker and sport larger camera cutouts. The two Pro variants are expected to bring LTPO AMOLED displays with a 120Hz refresh rate. We're also expecting updated cameras and the latest Apple A15 chip.
