I tried out a Sony Smartwatch 2 for a week, only returning it because the Runtastic app was so awful and generated so much spam to my email address. Screen is great, microUSB charging convenient, battery life great, very easy to use. Did what it did well. I may get another one now they are below £100. I saw and tried the LG Watch R at IFA in Germany and it is superb, the screen is amazing, but you are right about Google Wear, it is boring and too much based on succinct notifications. TBH, Apple have got it right with their watch, the way you can reply to messages and have it automatically display a list of radio button options is genius! That is why Apple are still killing it, attention to detail!
All said, it needs an iPhone and I refuse to get back into iOS, but I do have an excellent LG G3, so the Watch R is going to get a try out, along with a Moto 360 and the Sony SW3, which also uses microUSB so is convenient.

Was watching few videos of this watch on youtube,and I really do not like the OS of android wear,you need to swipe alot to get 1 function.. did not see any music player widget.. on my smart watch 2 I have 3 different ones and I can even make my owns watch faces with music weather or any other widget on it.
Navigation looked very bad on the video and it does not give you the route ... sony does (google maps and Garmin)
All what I see on reviews is that they change their watch faces (hundreds of them on SW2), and find your phone I had it already on the live view from 2010 .
I did not see one thing that is new except,voice commends.(that works very bad outdoor)
Love the watch,love the round screen,would get me one,but what for? when it can't do the half that my SW2 can,and much faster and easier.
What about games? remote settings? gps? nfc?
Save your money ... it is a beautiful watch but 225BP is much too much,buy yourself 1 year old Sony SW2 for 1/2 of the price and it will do anything you throw at it,with 3 days battery life!
I won't buy the new Sony SmartWatch 3 for the same reasons.

Price is a bit steep, even compared to the Motorola 360, which is £199 with leather strap or £220 with metal strap.

The first watch to put a smile on my face cuz I can't see a reason to wear a watch with the same function of a mobile device, in my opinion this is pointless but anyway, the design really amaze me
