25 October, 2014
Apple's SIM is locked down if you want to use it with AT&T, defeating the whole purpose of it.

In Australia, like you say, you could have three separate plans with three separate carriers, but instead of having to deal with three separate SIM cards, you can just use one Apple SIM. Get it now? It's totally more convenient.

Only issue now is one of the carriers, is not playing nice and will lock the sim if you go with them, blocking you from using the sim from other carriers. This is nothing to do with Apple.

I don't have an opinion on this choice by Sprint, but what really gets to me is the error message. It's extremely vague, probably deliberately. And it even asks you to keep in trying even though this won't change. At least Apple and Speint could have had the decency to make an error message that actually tells you why it doesn't work and doesn't give you false hope this will be fixed soon. And yes, both Apple and Speint are responsible for that.

How is this apple sim solving a problem? It's not. It's just adding more complexity in having to have carriers onboard with it.

Here in Australia, people can chop and change carriers however often they like, month by month if they like, you just swing past the local service station and buy a $2 simcard.

This is not solving the problem of contracts or carrier lock-ins at all, that is and always has been up the the carriers discretion and apparently it still is ! If the carrier offers month by month services, that has nothing to do with the damn simcard !

This is spells the return of the CDMA based provisioning model, where eventually the "simcard" will be built into the phone and the carriers will have COMPLETE control over what phone you can and can't register on their network. It stinks. And it's the Americans that are so deluded in thinking this plan of Apple's is "fighting the carriers". It's actually ENABLING them more control!

Apple has nothing to do if the phone company locks ur simcard, apple make a simcard that u can use in any companies but if the company lock ur simcard that is their descrestion since they want u to stick on the contract that u signed or applied.

If u go for a phone company that has a cntract that is actualy their policy, because they assure that you finish your contract before go to a different company... You signed for a contract therfore you agree the companies terms and condition..whatever the terms and conditions they emplied u shud follow that, otherwise go to a company that doesn't have a contract then..
