Valooci, 27 Oct 2014The main thing with Mediatek is the lack of driver support ... moreMTK has started to give out updates. A lot of Lenovo phones have updated to KitKat. That might have been true in the past but that is starting to change. Give them some time, they are still a young company

ved, 27 Oct 2014GPS still doesn't work as it should be even on MT6792. Its ... moreWhat is 6792? There is no such thing. If you mean 6592 then you have a dodgy phone from a dodgy manufacturer, it's certainly not inherent of the chip to overheat or have a non-working GPS. GPS Problems with Mediatek is almost always the fault of manufacturers not adding proper antennas.

GPS work fine on Huawei Honor 3X with MT6592 so if it doesn't then it's your phone.

Anonymous, 27 Oct 2014not as good as s810 :DThis is a mid end chip. MT6795 is their high end one, which smokes S810. Qualcomm had a good run with S600 and S800. Now they're back where they used to be, following. Now if we get manufacturers use her chips in less devices we'd be golden...

GPS still doesn't work as it should be even on MT6792. Its overheating and no dual SIM support for LTE chipset...and its not so cheap as it should be if we are talking about the price. All in all, its not a good option for me.

android one devices in india use mediatek chipset..but giving OTA android updates as soon as they get released by Google... people also rooting their mediatek device to latest android... so there's no role of chipset of not getting updates.. its company's strategy to sell more devices.

Valooci, 27 Oct 2014The main thing with Mediatek is the lack of driver support ... moreThat's completely wrong, MediaTek released Kitkat-drivers for ALL their modern SoCs (MT6589, MT6588, MT6592 etc). So if a MediaTek-based phone didn't get an upgrade, you should blame the manufacturer ONLY.

Actually it's Qualcomm that is the worst offender, almost all of their dual-SIM or TD-LTE chipsets are only upgraded to 4.3.

Valooci, 27 Oct 2014The main thing with Mediatek is the lack of driver support ... moreTwo things.

#1 It's normal to upgrade phone yearly so it's really no problem.
#2 Most don't care, or even know which OS version their phone has. Nor does it really matter for the majority, only the apps matter.

The main thing with Mediatek is the lack of driver support ie if you want to upgrade to a newer Android version you can't. sooo MTK powered phones is more like a buy and forget 'em phones cheap - but without any future OS upgrades.

at least these are actually octocore. IE 8 cores on 1 die. not like other companies which are dual quad core. and claim to be octocore. knowing all 8 cores will never run symetrically.
