It sto... more"No it does not use Android kernel, dont spread lies" - I think you may have failed to observe that Android runs the Linux kernel too... yes Google made some minor modifications, but those have been fed back into mainstream Linux now, and so if Android runs an "Android Kernel", then this phone runs an "Ubuntu Kernel"..... but if we stop being pedantic they are both Linux.

Don't know what you're talking about, but Android is on the Linux kernel. That's part of the reason they support the same drivers.

P., 26 Nov 2014No, it is using outdated android kernel 3.4 No it does not use Android kernel, dont spread lies. It stopped using Android kernel long time ago. It used kernel from Android and Surface Flinger before but now it runs on Linux kernel with Android drivers and Mir display server.

Very promising product that offers a real alternative to a substantial minority of users that want more control of their data, but Canonical seem to be having real problems getting this OS into the market.

I see it has significantly changed now.. Good thing too..

It sits on top of the android kernel last I ... moreI think the general idea is that when it's mature enough, Ubuntu Phone OS will completely ditch any reliance on Android. So in principal, when it's finished, it won't rely on the Android kernel.
Sure, Canonical is aiming towards "linux for human beings". Ubuntu for desktop is also supposed to be user friendly. And for the most part, it is. The issues come from the fact that it's not widely used nor widely supported by the hardware manufacturers. As such, simple things like connecting a Bluetooth device can become a hassle. The same could be true of Ubuntu Phone OS. (at least at first).
Being a linux based OS, you will of course find the familiar Terminal app on Ubuntu Phone. And you will find a lot of instructions on how to solve stuff just by using this tool. I predict that most of those who adopt Ubuntu Phone will be those that have a linux distribution as their main desktop OS. As such you might not find a lot of tools for killing apps for instance because people will just use the terminal or scripts for such tasks.
Another important point to mention, being an open OS, build and tested by the community might mean that Ubuntu Phone won't necessarily be very stable. The desktop variant can often be crippled by a video driver update, or by the OS upgrade (this is why it's always recommended to do a clean install, instead of an upgrade).
Also Ubuntu is known for draining battery faster than Windows in laptops, so I wouldn't expect great battery life in phones either.
As someone who dabbles in linux from time to time, I would love to try out Ubuntu Phone, but I would certainly not rely on it for daily tasks.

so this is a linux distribution which is run on phone. but with different ui. am i correct?
In pc, ubuntu is a horrible os. last time i used it, it could not connect to my bluetooth speaker. So i had to type and execute some "geeky" commands through its "command prompt app" to make it connected to my bluetooth speaker.
In PC, Ubuntu has a very good ui, but not user-friendly. Too many "Type into the command prompt" is required to make this os serves all u need.
