I hope that low cost cellular manufacturers like this don't deter the bigger boys from spending money on development of top end devices due to diminishing sales.
It's great that affordable devices are hitting the market but continual development is also key.

Really Chinese little rice showing the way to the world. Apple's policy is just to make money and sales 100% more than actual value at beginning and slowly cuts prices upto half after few years. Samsung is following apple but has big pressures to lower their prices. But Xiaomi is selling in very few profit margins and not expending money on advertising stuffs. That's why Xiaomi is selling high quality devices in very low prices . Considering those facts I think Xiaomi could be number one after few years.

This meagre profit considering the volume of phones Xiaomi sells will almost certainly be wiped out by the royalty payments Xiaomi will now have to pay Sony as it is barred from selling phones in India due to patent infringement.
Xiaomi owes Sony for ALL past sale and future sales its makes if it wants to restart sale in India
Whilst Samsung are experiancing a profit fall for 2014 Xiaomi are selling phones at cost, near cost loss? so the $45Bn valuation is.... optimistic

I don't think Xiaomi would snoop for the Chinese government, but however, if they do something wrong, it is impossible to sue them. Not so in the case of Japanese and Korean or US companies.
The hanging threat of civil litigation keeps companies honest. Unless Chinese fix this, their companies will have limited success in the global market.

The first rule of statistics is how they are worded or presentated will either give a more or less favorable impression depending whether you want the statistic to help or hurt your case.
I think most people here have totally misunderstood the statistic and think it translates to market share and product quality somehow. People also need to understand how much this statistic changes by the simple removal of one market. I say without China sales they wouldn't even be in the top 10 am I right or wrong?

You are bringing in irrelevant arguments to prove the statistics inaccurate.
Foxconn is not on the list cos it is a 'contract manufacturer'.. The phones they make are for others and not their own. Their "own" phones are sold under the brand 'Foxconn Infocus'.. Which might be under 'others' section of the list..
It seems your understanding of the article regarding xiaomi being 3rd largest manufacturer is highly flawed..

They didn't copy anything. They are not Samsung to copy. Mi 4 build quality is more than Samsung Galaxy S5.
