[deleted post]All phones will be more expensive in Russia now, and the same goes for the other countries that took a hit on their currencies due to the falling oil prices, its not an Apple-only or a Russia-only thing, its business as usual.

And by the way, its nothing compared to what happened to Iceland and the Icelandic Krona during the 2008 financial crisis, if you want to know what increased prices really are then ask any Icelander. In fact it was so bad that they even considered to change their currency to Norwegian Kroner.

They should however try to avoid sanctions, i can understand the wish to protect Russian minorities abroad but its not like Ukraine was ever going to start rounding up Russians and execute them on the spot, i believe Russia just wanted to show off some power.

Sorry, no, 23 Dec 2014"Russia is doing very well!" Um, no. Countries... moreActually it can be a very good thing. History lesssion, how did Germany and Japan become industrial giants? Devalued currencies after WW2. The ww2 victors thought they were punishing them but in reality did them a great favor. German cars would bare exist without it.

Modern times, the last few months, Scandinavias biggest economy, commonly considered the worlds richest country and is Europes biggest oil producer, that is Norway if you didnt guess already, they also seen very big devaluation of their currency over the last months due to falling oil prices but its actually good for the economy, the export business is celebrating. Norway even went as far as reducing the central banks interest rate when the Kroner was at a bottom in mid December, imagine that, in the midst of it all they did the one thing that was sure to make the Kroner fall even more. The devaluation is in general a very good thing up there.

Isn't this just an excuse to price gouge the oligarchs in Russia who can actually afford an iPhone? Why does the fact that the ruble has lost value mean that Apple now needs $956 for a 16 GB iPhone 6, even once you account for the ruble's lower exchange rate? The same phone costs $649 in the states. Why does Apple need to charge 50% more for it in Russia?

I guess when you live in a place where there is even more disparity in wealth than in the U.S., you can't sell as many iPhones, but you can gouge the wealthy elite more for them.

That is after all Apple's business model. Make shiney trinkets for the 1% and their spoiled children. Convince them that a device which is no better than any other smartphone is God's gift to man. Let them have the satisfaction of being confirmed of their superiority to everyone else by their consumers choices (which they already believe anyway, because of their wealth, but every little bit of extra smugness helps). And then, well, laugh all the way to the bank.

Americans can look derisively on Russia all they want, but that kind of extreme wealth disparity and poverty is our future.

And people still buy them. I dont know why americans are always whining about them being expensive, because they have the lowest prices, especially compared to the income per capita in that country.

"increased pricing" Apple iPhone 6 with 16GB of on-board memory now costs 53,990 rubles (about $956)"

And yet still cheaper than in Greece and Romania (EU/NATO countries) ($1000!)

Russian gas is $0.6 per liter while in most EU countries is almost $2 per liter.
With all the sanction and the financial attacks on Russia from the western/nato and their poppets. Russia is doing very well!
                                  Respect Russia!
