AnonD-4340, 27 Dec 2014Was wondering when they were gonna start selling Z30 at a r... moreCould well be the case. I agree that BB made an error of commercial judgement by overpricing the Z10 and the Z30 early in their introduction. Without carrier support, such as with Apple, Samsung and LG in particular (which is the main reason they can sell premium priced mobiles), there was never the prospect of people paying a premium outright for these mobiles in large volumes. In that sense BB management demonstrated outrageous arrogance and naivety to think otherwise. They did what others manufacturers dont do. They tried to reinvent market dynamics. Really dumb thinking. They believed their own bullshit.

Was wondering when they were gonna start selling Z30 at a reasonable price, and now, is better late than never? Z30 could have sold great for around $350 6 to 12 months ago, but now, whats the interest?

Z30 was never worth much, the low display resolution placed it in the upper midrange from the start. In addition to that it was quite fat and those things made it a niche product at a time when people wanted hi-res and slim phones. BB is very late with this pricecut, they could have substantially reduced their losses if this came as a more moderate price cut earlier.

It may not matter too much, BB had learned from Z10 to not have too big stocks so its very probable that Z30 was never produced in big batches and that they waited so long with the pricecuts simply because they didnt have big stock of Z30 causing them significant inventory losses.

All very nice but with the backside dropping out of the Australian dollar it is still not worthwhile buying this mobile. What a pity they did not price this attractively 12 months ago.

These are both good phones. I went back to Passport because I wanted physical keys. Everything runs well on BlackBerry, including Firefox with AdBlock and my banking apps. I probably have more Android apps installed than native BlackBerry apps.

adeeb, 26 Dec 2014Nice looking phone, but is it good for a windows or Android... moreBb10.3 has been awarded by some as Thursday world's best mobile os. It's not 'a step down'! Once you try it you'd think android is a joke. Read up about it, features like the 'hub' are a must for anyone trying to use their phone for business.

Fake "sales". BlackBerry Passport was going for $450~$500 before the iPhone trade-in program and as soon as the trade-in program starts the price become $550. The current Amazon price of $550 has been there since December 1st.

The Passport was already available for $550 on Amazon and it ships to India (and probably internationally)...gotta love Amazon.
