Nokia have just announced their 3G… booklet, erhh… netbook

24 August, 2009
Strictly speaking GSMArena.com is not the place to source information about netbooks or laptops. But when the world's leading mobile phone manufacturer decided to debut their own netbook product we just couldn't...

Anonymous, 25 Aug 2009Now is portable device era.this device is a monster, not really that portable.

before using the sony vaio p lifestyle, i was using asus s series that got recommendation from tomshardware. that only a mere 1.2kg, slim, with pentium M processor.

I must say that 1.2 kg is a things in the past. nothing amuse me with this 1.2kg booklet.

Win7RTM, 25 Aug 2009Ok honestly, the Vaio P is practically incomparable to the ... moreHave you tried this Sony VAIO P series keyboard.

This P series is NOT comparable the way you put in UMPC etc.
It have the UMPC form factor, BUT in general usage, it's feel just like regular netbook. ALL IN ALL, it's the cream of the cream of netbook. A prestige mark. This is a luxury device of x86.

If nokia really wanna enter this market, it has to create something intresting, not just making 'yet another netbook'.

Nokia netbook is surely win my heart too. But I really expect more from the world leader of phone market.

Anonymous, 25 Aug 2009This sony vaio p HAVE the same hardware as the nokia device... moreOk honestly, the Vaio P is practically incomparable to the Booklet, let alone most netbooks out there. The P is comparable to UMPC's, and by it's comparison, it would win, but such isn't the case for the Booklet, EEE, Wind (not to mention Wind Touch), Inspiron Mini, NC10, I could go on. People do want a lightweight, comfy netbook, but not one so small and cramped. Sure you have some of the same features and processing speed, but why would you wanna go and sacrifice probably $1000 more, just because it's smaller and lighter? There's no better screen either...where's the HD display (where's the HDMI output as well)? You're hitting and missing here. The only nice feature about the P is the 256GB of SSD and 10% more battery life than the previous P devices, but guess how much money you have to shell out for that? I highly doubt that the Booklet will even be over $600. I can see myself using the P solely for ultra-portability, GPS, 3G/Wi-fi for fast browsing, and Office. For anything other than that, I could live without subtlety.

It have the SAME computing power.

And as in the x86 things, you can CHANGE the OS.
The way you said, make other things that Sony VAIO P is a pentium II, and this nokia a pentium IV (speed wise).

Same CPU, same GPS, same GSM/3G/bloetooth/wifi
                      diff....
                      sony have better screen
sony have better weight (600gram vs. 1.2kg)
sony have smaller size (pocketable size)

and I bet the price would be the same

The thing is, I'm not saying this nokia boklet bad.
If you wanna buy acer aspire one, asus EEE, this Nokia boklet will surely blow your brain away.

                        BUT
                        this is NOkia
I'm hopping something better from the NUMERO UNO PHONE company.
I don't expect they just release another notebook
I hope they release something like startrek things.
other company like the oQo have develop a product that combine phone and computing power with high mobility (UMPC/MID device).
This is what nokia should make... this is the un-tap market of mobility.

                        But instead of that,
                        nokia just enter notebook market...
do you know that the profit in notebook market were VERY small
whereas in smartphone, the company can make 100%+ profit.

The Vaio P is SOLELY designed for net surfing use, nothing more. If you have used it, you would know. It ain't pretty with Vista loaded on it (and windows 7 as well mind you) - P series is for those who want EXTREME portability at the sacrifice of performance.

In regards to Nokia's netbook, it is more students or business people who wish for a cheaper alternative (away from ultraportables) but with moderate amounts of performance sacrifice (you would be sacrificing EXTREME amounts of performance with the P).
Go try the P series out mate. Even their newer cpus (1.86ghz N280 I think) are not up to the task with vista. In Japan, they sell those with XP preloaded; wonder what the westeren division is thinking....?

it's about the same size as comunicator of nokia
                              it's a pocketable intel atom 1.6GHz with 2GB ram 60GB HD, GPS, 3G/3.5G/GSM with 600 gram (0.6 KG / 1 ounce) and pocketable size.

Better than this no inovation stuff from nokia.

I should add. I ain't some fan boy (though some in this forums seem to be..)

But what I can't understand is that people are (like some here, see below) are willing to essentially stick their necks out for their beloved company - Sony ain't a god, mind you, it is a corporate entity - it will be laughing itself to the bank whenever it sees and sells stuff to people like you. Well, I got news for you people. You buy what you need, not what you want!
I bought me Z because it was the smallest lappie with the highest pixel density on the market and the hybrid gpu; for mainly CAD work at home and finance management with excel when I'm out and about.

I think the nokia booklet will do well; they just need to market it right and it should put up a decent fight against the mainstream builders. Just wish they would use the VIA processors instead of the atoms...

I have a VAIO, and I ain't terribly happy with it myself.
Not too sure what that other fellow is saying (he is implying Sony is the best..? I don't think so). Sure, my Z is great in terms of performance, but build-wise it aint too reliable. That plus I paid over $2500US to get mine custom built last year...

And Sony IS offering Windows 7 upgrades (INCLUDING VT enabled mobos), so not sure what you are on about. In actual fact EVERY lappie manufacturer is offering the upgrade now.

And mate, don't bash Sony too hard. I like my Z, just minus the squeaky keys and clicky chassis. Companies learn from their mistakes quite quickly. I wouldn't mind buying another Sony, just nothing so high-end next time...
