Christian, 21 Apr 2015Agreed,symbian was the most advanced OS at the time.So adva... moreI don't know what you are pushing and using. But make calendar memo on my N808 takes those steps. One hw button unlock, press menu button, find and launch Calendar, press + for event add. And I can simply put Calendar app shortcut on main screen, then it takes Unlock, Start Calendar, +event. Can not be more simple. Btw. until now I'm using alarm only on N808 not my high end androids, because of speed of setting and ability to ring Alarm even with discharged battery!

AnonD-174449, 21 Apr 2015Symbian ? Thats like trying to extract DNA of from a living... more"move on with the times !"

As if e.g. Windows Phone is real progress?

      - no proper file manager
      - no call recording build in (without jailbreak/root/whatever)
      - no possibility to install apps where YOU want (phone, storage, SD)
      - no real multitasking or it took ages to implement it.
      - not properly usable without a cloud.
      - apps ONLY installable through proprietary store
      - no full filesystem access

If that's what you mean by "Move on" then no thanks!
I'll stick in the past. With a phone which has FULL 2-way call recording onboard with terrific quality, the very best still imaging camera (even today), super-loud speaker, compact sturdy design, great battery usage due to OS efficiency, completely cloud-independant, FM-radio and FM-transmitter etc...

The weird thing is that all that stuff "could" be implemented into Android as well but it seems that these handset-manufacturers only care about making the thinnest phone with the most ridiculous resolution and as closed up as much as possible.

Coupled with the fact that Google can't seem to properly patch that goddamn Android 5.x.x.x.x.x

It's the beginning o/t end for Android!

        Indeed!
Not only that, but with each new generation handset-manufacturers make their devices less and less open. This is becomming a real PITA! The S4 was fairly easy to root without tripping KNOX. It became much harder on the S5 and with the S6 it's virtually impossible. KNOX should have been optional install instead of a obligatory item.

It's clear that the S5 will be my last Galaxy!

"I used to be a BIG fan of Nokia & Symbian!"

I'm still a fan of Symbian though. If they had delivered as promised (Maps for life which they didn't support after one year, promised support to 2016 revoked in 2014 etc...) then I would be hapier of course.

"If Nokia would have moved on Android at the right time,"

No No No. Nokia should stay awayr from android as far as possible. They HAD their own linux-based OS (Harmattan) which was MUCH better than Android. And REALLY open unlike Android which is a minefield of proprietary code. E.g. Microsoft steals MILIONS from Android-handset makers while they didn't even created it. Harmattan was even liked by the press like GSMArena. So they should have stuck with that. Meego OS had at that time as much change to become the "3rd ecosystem" as Windows Phone.

I hope that IF they plan a return they go for Sailfish OS and speed up its development with features to make on par with Symbian (or anything else for that matter). Because it's clear that it will take ages to implement the much needed features (like call recorder, FM-radio, VPN etc...) into Sailfish OS without a big developer putting its shoulders under it. The N9 was almost there. It just needed a call-recorder and FM-radio app to make it feature-complete with Symbian. Both were later created by individual programmers not multimilion corporatiosn. So it should be possible!

They have a hack lot of good quality devices made in,chine. Starting with n9 the device that started true design era, going to nokia 808 which is the most sturdy device i have laid my hands on (hack, you can break a door with that device). Lumia 925, 930 1020 they are all good devices, even the low end ones like520. Which was a hit. Noki was killed cause of the people, by the people and was forced to move to China. Do you even think how much a worker was paid by Nokia in europe amd how much a worker is paid by samsung in china? You can't even get close to a minimatch;).

Don't they just look like what you said about Nokia is true about them? Ha? I think so, it has to be. Cause if their is no Nokia there is no true innovation, design and motivation. Without them all i see is some chinese copycats prasing how much ram and cores their devices have. Without telling to much of whats their use. Leaving people into thinking: More is better;). Sad, sad world of amateurs boys thinking their 600 dollat device is actually worthy of that price.

People who say symbian was good, are people who saw what this system was able to do before you were probably born and even now, there is no system to match symbian in pure functionality with no apps. Even with apps, these systems are way behind what symbian could and still can do. But am not expecting from amateurisch people to understand this. The only good thing this so called new systems have, is speed. And that is only cause of a way more power hardware symbian had. I would like to see an android powered by a 680 mhz processor with 256 mb ram running like my old pall the mighty N8, and handaling that camera with ease. If you know not much, stop making a f* out of your self, is sad and shame...

Please buy Jolla and make unique unlike good quality phones. Change the UI because it is very much like Android, that need development. Gesture based usage is the future, especially on big screen phones.
