AnonD-146320, 29 Apr 2015a welcome features in mobile, noise issue is there which is... moreNoise reduction can always be optimized & improved via software by analyzing its patters better. But it doesn't mean it will be perfect.

These sample photos look to be pretty much all shot in RAW & exported out from Lightroom with little or no noise reduction applied to them. So yeah, these samples are not representing what majority of people will actually get by shooting in JPG. You will actually get less noise by NOT shooting RAW.

(although, they have been resized smaller unfortunately.. Still gives you a good idea of what you'll get in most real life use cases) He also emphasized that his phone was using pre-final OS build. He will also upload full resolution photos soon to that page.

After seeing those photos, I'm even more impressed with what the G4 can do. (especially thanks to RAW)

Arcane , 29 Apr 2015Of course, they only used lightroom to convert and crop th... moreHuh? Did you see the photo comparison I did? It took me literally 10 seconds to make the LG released photo look WAY better with less noise using Lightroom. So you are trying to say that LG actually wanted to make the G4 photos look worse by using Lightroom? Coz they didn't make it look better using it that's for sure.

Also, they didn't crop either as the photo resolution is 5241x2948 which is in line with the sensor resolution. If they did crop, it will also end up making the image quality look worse by blowing it up to that resolution which I'm sure you'll agree. Crop can fix wrong composition but not make the photo image quality any better.

So in both counts, LG surely didn't do themselves any favors going by what you are saying.

I dont see anything mature here, Nothing special in these samples that the other CURRENT flagships ain't achieving since the noise is still there! I m still waiting for something like 808 pureview lol, that beast was a real showoff!

(shows extra white speck noise)

But yeah, still looks great for ISO 800 with plenty of detail intact. All this for 10 seconds of work which isn't too bad.

I think My Lumia 930, 20MP Pureview, with Carl-Zeiss Lens takes a way better pics rather than G4. There are too much noise obviously.

BTW, although it's a VERY bad comparison, let's try to compare high ISO shots from what we have at GSMArena. Keep in mind that it's also half a stop LOWER ISO value than the G4's photo so it's even more unfair for the G4.

                                  S6 @ ISO 640 (Original)

G4 @ ISO 800 (noise reduced by me via Lightroom)
                                  http://i.imgur.com/aVYU14F.jpg

For both photos, concentrate around the center of the photos.

Compared to the original shot uploaded by LG themselves, many will think S6 photo is far superior due to lack of noise. But where is the detail? So much of it is all blurred out via heavy noise reduction on the S6 even at ISO 640.

Now look at original G4 shot. It looks very noise. But the detail is there. Doesn't look bad at all when resized down.

Now look at my noise reduced version. Amaing don't you agree? The pre-processed JPG out of the S6 cannot match this IMHO. Even if I later modify S6 photos with Lightroom, the detail is already lost on the S6 to be able to produce something better.

That took a total of 10 seconds via Lightroom to do. Only 2 settings were changed. Noise Reduction changed from 0 to 80 and Color from 0 to 100.

So when taking photos with out-of-the-box RAW support on the G4, I reckon it can beat any S6/Note4 or iPhone 6+ photos. It's not for everyone of course but at least there is the option for those who want better quality photos.

P.S. Free version of imgur seems to resize the photo down a little.

I hope people can stop yarning for RAW support. This is the can of quality you will get from a mobile phone.
To me these images look like they were taken in RAW mode and then converted to JPG with no compression.

I am using the Canon EOS 70D and I know the difference between JPG and RAW. RAW has plenty of details but also suffer a lot from noise.

The creek shot at ISO 800 shows plenty of chroma noise. But is still miles ahead of S5 at ISO 640 but just behind the S6. (Keep in mind that it seems no noise reduction was applied for the LG shot where as even S6 applies plenty of noise reduction at high ISO)

But yeah, I expect that it will be below average with JPG unless they really process it well in-phone.
