Okay first off, I own one of the old models which offer a sdCard slot. Now in this phone you CANNOT TRANSFER apps to the sd card unless you root the phone which isn't really advisable (for me). Xiaomi has offered an sdCard for the purpose of Music, Movies and taking photos with your camera. That being said, where does the question of app crashing come in the picture where xiaomi phones are concerned?!. We NEED an sdCard slot. And. Cloud storage in India. Really?! That's their answer where space in concerned?! Do they know anything about India?! We are a third world country. There I said it. We do not have public wifi places every step we take outside, n data packs cost money. A lot of it. These phones at the most will offer users maybe 12 gb if not 13 gb of user space. That is NOT enough. And I'm sorry but I do not agree that OTG is the answer. It's not really that convenient. This is not just with the mi4i people, Hugo barra has been quite firm when he said that we should not expect sdCard slots in future flagship phones. If that is the case then sadly, it will be the decline of xiaomi in India. These phones target the budget minded people and if they have really done their research they should know that storage is a very important factor with the Indian crowd. And no Hugo Barra I do not agree that "no sdCard slots are the new trend" it may be your trend, or apples or now even Samsung with some of their new phones but it will not be a lasting trend especially in the Indian Market. Xiaomi is digging its own grave. I was seriously considering buying the mi4i but this was a huge deal breaker for me. Goodbye Xiaomi. It will be the end of your reign soon. It was nice while it lasted.

it is more convenient than cloud storage and carrying a pen drive with you. All the reasons for not putting sd card slot are lame excuses. We don't mind if our phones are thicker because of sd card slot. After all it is better than a phone that has low and non expandable memory

Cloud, google drive or dropbox is not as convenient as sd card or internal storage.

MicroSD card requires a large motherboard (25 per cent larger in the case of the Mi 4i because its motherboard is already very slim) and a significant redesign of the device that leads to considerably larger form factor.
If Xiaomi had put a microSD card slot in the Mi 4i, it couldn't have put a bigger (over 3000mAh battery) in it without increasing the thickness of the phone.
Xiaomi says that SD cards can significantly slow down system performance and lead to apps crashing. In fact, according to company's surveys it has found that SD cards are a significant cause of device failures (up to 30 per cent of customer support complaints) due to the poor quality of SD cards in the market, many of which are actually fake.
These are valid reasons. Also, these are the same reasons why most of the high-end phones nowadays don't come with a microSD card slot. it is soon launching 32gigs & 64 gigs..
It supports OTG you can use pen drives..
Overall its great budget phone with awesome premium features under 15K (441 PPi,(nexus 5 comes with 445 ppi) dual 4G sim support).

This phone does NOT support 3G Band for 900MHz and 4G Band-20 for 800MHz. These bands were recently acquired by Indian Telecom companies in March-2015 spectrum auction.
Recently Idea telecom operator started 3G in Delhi or Mumbai using 900Mhz band and other operators are planning for the same in other Indian cities.
