Gibby, 19 Jun 2015Yey - something in Canada! Anyone know anything about this... moreI live in the US and I have had my Alcatel One Touch Idol 3 for about 1 month now. It is excellent for the price! The build quality is great, the screen is excellent, the dual front facing speakers are superb as are the JBL earbuds that shipped with the phone. The camera is good but not spectacular. I think the front facing camera actually takes better pictures than the rear camera which can be grainy, especially in low light, but it is still a better camera than many phones that are far more expensive. It is running almost stock Android Lollipop 5.0.2 with very little bloatware. Hopefully the Carriers in Canada don't ruin that aspect. I does have small problems like occasional lag opening apps, but most of the time it is a very smooth and lightweight UI experience. The only significant software problem that I have seen is the double tap to wake is very poorly implemented and usually will not work if the phone has had the screen off for more than a few minutes. After switching from a OnePlus One to this phone, that was the one of the only things that initially aggravated me because double tap to wake on the One was flawless. The power button and volume rocker take some getting used to as well because their positioning make it somewhat difficult to use the phone one handed. They are placed high up on the body and opposite of most phones I have used, with the power on the upper left side and the volume rocker on the upper right side. If you hold the phone in your left hand however and navigate with your right hand then the button placement actually makes perfect ergonomic sense.
All that being said, I am extremely happy with the phone. My son who used to work for Apple played around with it some yesterday and was highly impressed, loved the build quality screen and UI. I didn't have the heart to tell him I spent probably 1/4 of what he spent for his iPhone 6. Overall. This phone is fantastic, especially for the price! It also has MUCH better LTE Band support than the OnePlus One which is why I bought it. It hardly feels like a downgrade moving from the One to this either, and the Screen and speakers are a definite upgrade. Hope this info helps!

They make pretty good quality phones... My brother has Alcatel OneTouch Idol which he bought 2 years ago and stopped working two weeks ago but because he dropped it in water 2 or 3 times... Alcatel phones have nice, and responsive UI, and fairly nice displays... The only con about Alcatel is that they rarely update their smartphones to new software version... If the phone launches to Lollipop, it will most likely remain on that version forever... But since this phone has a Snapdragon chip, developers may build AOSP roms for this device...
