david, 16 Jul 2015Sailfish is crap worst android support android apps crash... moreHey man, I have been using Jolla for the past 4 months, and most things work perfectly. The only things that haven't worked so far are the android apps that require google services for them to work (e.g. google maps, citymapper etc.). Everything else works very good, smoothly, and with a great, actual multitasking. I don't know how you came in the conclusion that half of the apps stop working.

david, 16 Jul 2015Sailfish is crap worst android support android apps crash... moreI heard of Sailfish OS but never use it. I read somewhere its a failed OS that never work. Tizen is better and more established. Samsung already announced their third Tizen phone, the Samsung Z3.

Anon, 16 Jul 2015Either that guy's hands are small or that's a phabletYou are right. It is a phablet size but the screen appear to be around 4.5 inch only. If you look carefully the bezel is super thick especially at the bottom. This phone is trying to hide its antenna with thick bezel just like HTC.

Anonymous, 15 Jul 2015Snapdragon 600? Is this 2013?With other manufacturers spamming SD400/SD410 clearly SD600 is the better choice. SD810/SD808/SD615 are all plagued with heat problems. If the smartphone is aiming for high-end market it should sport SD805 but for mid-range SD600 is perfect

AnonD-212727, 15 Jul 2015Maybe considered outdated.. but maybe it doesnt need that m... moreunfortunately native apps on the Jolla are much slower than Android apps running in the Alien Dalvik VM on the same phone. I don't think this is due to a need for faster CPU/GPU, just bad coding on Sailfish.

However, Sailfish absolutely is the most RAM hungry mobile OS available. 1GB really isn't enough ... it's been improved slightly now, but the OOM app killer is a constant pain on the 1GB Jolla.

P.S. The photos of the 'Intex' device here are all original Jolla phones with a plastic case stuck to them.

It is totally renewed independent OS and is not based to Android. It can run most of the Android apps but of course Google Play is not available.

Anonymous, 15 Jul 2015Sailfish Android runtime was Android 4.2.2 way back in 2013... moresailfish relies on android and libhybris on some devices just to reuse android drivers. the versions of openssl and webkit and anything else don't matter as they aren't used. the android layer is there just so they don't have to beg vendors to make normal linux drivers in addition to android ones.

LamiaLove, 15 Jul 2015Wait, what?! Sailfish OS has nothing to do with Android (o... moreSailfish Android runtime was Android 4.2.2 way back in 2013 when they first introduced their phone. The OP was asking if the runtime has been updated to something more recent, as there are major exploits available for the older Android runtime (OpenSSL, Webkit to name a few). The other question, is whether the Jolla Android runtime still requires the Yandex app store to function. If this is the case, Sailfish OS is no better than most Android devices which require Google Play services to run.
