not a practical number to show anything. the real number should consider how many people actually owns only apple watch. how many sets shipped don't necessary shows its popularity.

Duel, 23 Jul 2015"claims to be the leader in something that obviously n... moreActually, tablets spread quite fast, Android ones originally flopped due to the OS not being properly designed for one. Ever tried a tablet with Android 2.2 or 2.3? I personally love Android today, but either of those even back in the day on a tablet was a horrible experience. The iPad was doing just fine back then after about half a year, which is pretty good.

As for trying out new things, you know, Android users adopted tablets quite fast after they actually became useful (actually every single taxi and delivery company here has one per employee, including many schools using them instead of notebooks). How 'bout consoles? The Android users welcomed the introduction of those quite well, hell even people that don't care about smartphones picked up and OUYA to use as a media center. How 'bout controllers, OTG drives, and the list goes on...Sorry, but I don't see where the claim comes from so I'll just go ahead and dismiss it.

Smartwatches at this point are nothing more than a proxy for what your phone already does on it's own, there's no real advantage in using one for the grand majority of users.

Hahaha what a load of rubbish !! Probably the 75% of market are all Apple employees!!! I won't buy ANY phone watch until battery life is so much better and can last at least a week before needing a charge! Since that's probably most unlikely I will be quite happy with my Casio Gshock which always tells me the time without need for charging ! For phone use I will use my wait for it.......Mobile Phone !!!!! Rofl

How you know this? When iPad came, iPad was only tablet which sold very well, it took year or two for android users to got interested about tablets.

It just looks that android users doesn't want or are scared to try new tech even when android fan always talk about that how android users bue newest tech etc., and yet sametime Apple users are interested to see what these smartwatches are all about and giving them a chance, while android users arent't interested at all. I really don't blame them android watches are very bad, boring and really ugly, no wonder no-one want to wear them.

Either the adoption rate is too slow, or the market interest is pretty much non-existing yet. (I personally believe it's option 2 is the case). Check the growth rates for actually useful tech, you'll see that this is considerably slower spreading. (I look up this stuff on google like everyone else, so save me time from posting 50 links by looking it up yourself)

I have a neighbor that sells hand crafted wood figures (pretty good ones actually), and no one else sells those, so she's automatically the market leader...but the market is so small that nobody cares. This is what I see when reading both this and the BBC article - a company claims to be the leader in something that obviously nobody cares about...and my other point also remains, I'm pretty sure all sales haven't paid for the R&D yet.

I'm not impressed by apple watch. Surprised by the number though. I like round face watch better. We want something more watch-like. Realistic watch looking and not toy looking. Apple watch look like someone stuck a mini ipod on their wrist.

The title is very misleading as it should be smart watch market and wearables market. Fitbit and Xiaomi ought to be on top of it's wearables.

And if Apple has 75% of the market, does that mean that out of 5 billion (or whatever) people on Earth, only 4 million have smartwatch? ...quite the impressive statistic there, these things seem to be about as popular as the OUYA.

                                        What a silly header....

Anyone looking at the numbers can see that it is bunch of avid fans that have bought this.

So the 'wearable market' is vastly boosted, actually by +430%, of witch almost all the +400% is due to the Iwatch.

So they haven't 'captured' anything, they have added a small fraction of their huge fan-base to the 'wearable market'.
