No, I don't realize that because I don't know what an "odd" billion is. What I do know is that Samsung made about $50 billion in revenue. After Samsung spent millions on commercials, equipment, and PAYING 400,000 EMPLOYEES, they had 5 billion left over to deposit in their bank account (aka profit).

Samsung...read my comment and note it. It will be very short: S6 is overpriced, has no microSD, not waterproof and some would add non removable battery. Fix that and you will have your numbers.

This is a fantasy article. In the real world, Sammy's ongoing financial decline was not reversed by the release of the S6/S6 Edge phones.

"Samsung profits drop as mobile arm suffers 37.6% crash in Q2"
This is the actual and ugly headline on the web regarding Samesung's second quarter results.

Looks like the S6 and S6 edge did not live up to the hype. lol

Especially with the S6 edge's crackgate. lol.

User, 30 Jul 2015This is a seriously distorted article. Basically, Samsun... moreOh and how is a healthy 11% profit margin on the mobile division, despite a contracting tablet market, "close to not making any money on phones"?

So much fiction, so little facts.

User, 30 Jul 2015This is a seriously distorted article. Basically, Samsun... moreYou mean the S6 sales were actually good, but offset by tanking low- and midend sales, due to Asian competition.
Quarter on quarter, the operational profit is 15% up, net profit 24% up and mobile profit is up by 1%, despite the above. Which means that value per phone has gone up too.

And QoQ are quite interesting as well, since Samsung barely has any seasonal influences (especially when looking at the opreational profits) to be filtered, due to the large product profolio, unlike Apple, which has strong seasonal cycles. In fact, the mobile division only seems to show tiny dips every 2nd and 4th quarter, but this 2nd quarter, the profits were a hair UP instead, as noted above.

Samsung down, sony down, lg down, htc down. Everyone else is falling and then there's Apple who making record sales q after q. Game over for android OEMs. Shows very well that you can't make money with android anymore and can't stand out from the crowd with android.

samsung has 400k employees and if you divide their profits and revenue by their employee strengths many might be better off than samsung

Hp fanboy, 30 Jul 2015I find Gsmarena is not harsh in news reporting. Anyway, Sam... moregsmarena has some soft corner for samsung ;-)

                              stock price tanked..
even after the release of much hyped S6 and S6 edge results didn't save samsung..
considering samsugs announcemnt that they will reduce the price of S6 and S6 edge , i am damn sure lots of unsold items are there in the inventories which needs to be cleared..
most probably results got big boost because of channel stuffing

This is a seriously distorted article.

Basically, Samsung Mobile suffered another 40% drop in profit compared with the same period last year. However, the semicondutor business grew, so the drop for the whole Electronics was "just" 8%.

With the poor seller S5, Samsung was making 40% more money than the S6. Yeah, no wonder that they will have to drop prices to move unsold inventory.

Samsung is close to also not making money selling phones. Apple steamrolled them on the high end, growing another 40% in sales. That shows that only high end Android devices don't sell, unless they are cheap.
