HTC may relaunch the One M9 with a MediaTek chipset

12 August, 2015
This could just be a wild rumor, but if it isn't it doesn't sound like a great plan to revitalize the company.

Though I suspect that e.g. people in the northern regions of Europe, North America and Siberia would welcome these 2015 flagship smartphones. :) Big screen and hot, Oh yeah!

To devs because Mediatek isn't open with their code.
To European customers due to no-GLONASS support and hence have worse GPS reception than competing SoC's.

I do believe that latter has been fixed in newer Mediatek-SoC's.

I have a HTC One M9 on the Sprint network in Los Angeles and the reception is very poor. I've been very disappointed with the reception, it reminds me of the poor reception I used to get with Samsung phones which I stopped buying due to that very reason. With the M9 I don't know if the bad reception is due to the LTE or not but I very seldom get anything over 1 bar of signal strength and operates very sluggishly. On the odd occasion when the phone picks up a stronger signal it is a completely different phone, it's lightning fast.

Mediatek cpu mostly meant for China market. not much support given to AOSP communities. better off getting an HTC with snappy dragons... even though some cpu is overheating. But you get communities AOSP support more, making your phones last till its really outdated. Look at HTC E9, E9+, M9+ & ME. Mostly stingy Chinese AOSP communities who charges you for unlocking & custom roms, making AOSP slower to progress on HTC devices. I regret Getting E9+, but can't blame HTC for going to mediatek route, they are suffering lost if continue with snappy dragon, I think they rely looks of the hand sets rather than the internal components to make profit. Wake up HTC.... even with MTK your phones still overpriced.... sigh.....

Helio x10 & x20 is much much better than s810 because they don't have heat up issues & fast as well & the main thing is that mediatek is cheaper rather than snapdragon. In new chips of Qualcomm has some issues they will solve first. Exynos is an another option for Htc.

HTC, love the company but they never do themselves any favours at all.

Make one (not three) flasgship devices, a budget and a large one (unless the original flagship is large enough)

No one needs anything between a flagship and a budget device, your sales figures should tell you that.

No wonder you're losing market share hand over fist.

I'm not bashing HTC either, i've had every device since the Hero, missing only the One X and the M8. I now have the M9, i'd like them to be around for longer but i can't see it what with the decisions they make and are for some reason backed into a plan??!

The mediatek afaik is a sub par processor and whilst it'll save them money it'll make people stop buying, HTC need to be so far ahead in terms of specs that people buy, marketing aside this is something they have to do or they'll lose the lot.
