It's the smartest move by Apple to retain the design so that people who bought the non-S variants don't feel a "visual" urge to upgrade if specs alone don't matter. They've done their research.

I'm upgrading from a 5 so looking forward to it, I must admit I would rather have waited till the 7 arrived but my cameras quit poor and some new features on ios9 will only work on newer models, I've got ios9 installed BTW and it's good 👍😀

Im upgrading from 5s like tens of millions others, doesn't feel small upgrade to me?
If you upgrade from note 4 to note 5, or from S5 to S6 doesn't feel big update either, so what's your point?
That's why most of people upgrade two or three year cycles.

Whats the problem with yearly incremental updates? Most people upgrading to the 6S will be coming from a 5S. That's actually a decent upgrade....
