Sony is trying to crowdfund a new premium smartwatch

31 August, 2015
Crowdfunding and peculiar tech just seems to be a match made in heaven. A quick browse through Kickstarter or Indiegogo can reveal a tidal wave of innovation, but sadly, most of the really ambitious gadgets never really make it to production. However, when dealing with the likes of Sony, there is certainly a lot more confidence in the air.

Yap it seems strange and I don't know the reason why sony made it first for iOS where is a known manufacturer of android phones and series of smart watches. But it seems they wanna make a beta out of an iOS...

          That is classy!
I just hope they make it in standard size and also sell the chain-strap separately so that it could be mixed matched with existing watches!

Eske Rahn, 31 Aug 2015Hmm so this is basically a smart-band replacing the bracele... moreLooking more carefully at this image: http://wena.jp/images/technology.png
The attachment type seems VERY much like standard, so if the dimensions are standard too this could be a matter of launching it including a watch at first and as a bracelet second.

Hmm so this is basically a smart-band replacing the bracelet on a normal mechanical watch...

Strange hybrid if you ask me. But for those that wants a classical mechanical watch and the smartband functionalities it sounds like a nice compromise, so they do not need two devices.

BUT: Why not make it as a standard module wristband, so the user could attach it to 'almost any' watch-case of their liking? Of course it would require a 'sporty' watch-case not to have the band look too clumsy, but there are a lot of those around in all kind of price ranges.

I must say though, that the concept is absolutely stunning. Wel done Sony! Hope it works out for them.
