Did you know that 3G video call was there 7 years ago... Nokia N series and the Samsung ones. All has now been gone in Android since it did not have the OS feature, now again it's back in T-Mobile. I don't understand why they dropped such a beautiful feature in Android and now adding it again. Will this be now in 4G/LTE instead of 3G, that may sound better since those calls used to suffer network lags.... ??? Anybody?

proud to be a britis, 05 Sep 2015Yeah, US always get new stuffs after UK used it long ago.Haha yeah you Brits had the LG Viewty in the UK, which is where I bought it from. You guys had 3G and the viewty could do Video Calling, YouTube, and many other stuff in 2007. :D
Yet at the time, here in the US, my Viewty caught the eyes of many but its awesome 3G features were rendered useless by AT&T and T-Mobile as they didnt support the bands, and also T-Mobile's 3G was nearly none-existent and AT&T had such an unstable 3G network..

Back in 2008 I was able to buy the LG Viewty which was not a smart phone yet could do video calling and had a 5MP camera with HQ Divx recording.. very advanced for its time but then again in the UK most phones were like that. But in the US the Viewty was reduced to a simple EDGE phone hehe

This is not a new feature, Nokia phones running on Symbian OS had this feature like 10 years ago.

I guess this is a RCS IMS based feature. Carriers in Germany are struggeling to get this to work.. :-)

3G video calling was never that good locally (South Africa) even though it's been around a long time and it was expensive (linked to voice call pricing). So this is maybe a more data driven/Skype/Facetime/Viber etc like approach to video calling.
And if it is, then it is something new, as again locally video calling (data package based) has only been through apps as mentioned above, none of which have had real blessings from service providers (carriers).

native 3G video call is one of basic 3G network feature and it's already available in Indonesia since 2005 (or maybe 2004? i forget the detail),
and i'm pretty sure that most countries in Asia and Europe already has that feature since many years ago.
it makes me wonder why USA just implemented it now?

Well, 3G-324m video calling was never available in North America as it was not supported (with few exceptions). But it would be quite innovative if it is based on VoLTE as this would significantly boost the quality of the video calls compared to the old 3G video quality.

I had similar feature on my Nokia N95, and was able to make Video call to any other Symbian phone which had front camera and supported 3G. Both Caller and Called needed to have 3G network for making Video Call.
Only thing which is new feature by T-Mobile is perhaps Video symbol displayed against contact who can receive Video call.

this is the reason why you are getting updates only for 1, maybe 2 years. TECHNICAL DEBT
tree stars (samsung) has a worst software ever, you can believe me or not (just buy any samsung)
im working almost 10 years in SW development and they have the biggest number of bugs when i ever seen.
