I think it will be great for a budget phone, I've had a 720 and now have an 830 with a cracked screen, My kids have a 530 and a 532, I've actually brought a cheap 532 in case I drop my 830 one more time which most likely would render it unuseable.
So I think the new 550 will make a great windows budget phone, even as a potential cheap replacement for my 830 rather than getting the screen repaired or just going to the 532 (which isn't a huge problem apart from the fact I really would miss 4G internet speed).

It all depends on the quality of the coding/developement. Your notion that Open Source is inherently insecure, because everyone can see the source code and exploit it is not true. Open-source is more secure because people/community/maintainers spot security holes early on and patch them. You can actually see what authentications are used and how badly/poorly they are written. OAuth is open source and we all use that every single day (Google, Twitter, Facebook etc.).
Although I'm praising OS to the skies there are drawbacks also. No system is perfect. Apple, Microsoft, Adobe etc. will tell you Open Source is bad, insecure and dangerous to use, because they want you to BUY their software.

Anonymous, 06 Oct 2015No, this 550 is quad core my lumia 640 is dual core.Lumia 640 has Snapdragon 400. It's quad-core Cortex A7 running at 1.2 GHz with ultraslow Adreno 305. Lumia 550 has Snapdragon 210 with quad-core Cortex A7 running at 1.1 GHz and even more slower Adreno 304.

It is not always about the specs, the lumia phone works practically much better than Android os in the same specs category. So ppl do not compare specs with android devices cos Android is power hungry os.

Too bad it's still use the old 32-bit Cortex-A7.
Other phones at that price range already use 64-bit Cortex-A53.
Other than that, Lumia 550 spec is fine.

These specs are terrible for this price. You can get a Meizu Note M2 for a similar price for much better specs.
