Kantar's data shows Windows Phone ahead of iOS in Russia

03 November, 2015
Keep in mind that the data revealed by the market research firm covers only the first 8 months of this year.

Clarifications, 04 Nov 2015They've never had a goal to make Mobile and desktop the sam... moreMicrosoft had a far more computer-like platform in the past, Windows Mobile. Which had SMB/CIF-access (aka windows shares) from within its file-manager. Had a comprehensive PIM that was a descendant of the renowned Office Outlook PIM and could sync perfectly with it! It even behaved more like a traditional computer with its system folder, start-menu-button etc... Unlike the toy platform that is Windows Phone of today.

It failed due to the pressure of a much better optimized Symbian platform which incidentally could also sync with Office outlook and which ran much better on the lower performance ARM-cpu's from past years. I'm convinced that a Windows Mobile 6.x (or whatever) would run much better on the ARM's of today.

In fact when M$ started Windows Phone they stated that WP was a media-centric/cloud-platform first exactly like iOS is. Thus a copycat of iOS with a distinctive look and feel. Business oriented featured would be added on later. Unlike the old WM-platform which was business first and media-second although it had comprehensive media-playback at its time.

Nonetheless I have no faith in M$ and hope they die soon enough. If alone for what they did to Nokia.

zacsaturday, 04 Nov 2015They do, but they're like China, most are only local. Then perhaps GSMArena should post a bit more about them too. Since

      1) Rusia is a GSM-country
      2) in recent times most o/t phones reviewed or mentioned aren't available worldwide so why not add a bunch more phones unavailable to most o/t world?
      3) If the mentioning of non-available phones is to spur our interest or for us to learn new (non-western) tech why discriminate these elusive Russian phones?

Come one GSMArena. Make your name stand for something and show us some o/t phones that we'll never can see anywhere else.

Clarifications, 04 Nov 2015They've never had a goal to make Mobile and desktop the sam... moreYou're obviously not a Business Power User.
Most businesses would want the functions of a PC in a handheld device which they can carry and do business at any time and place.
And no, Windows Desktop and Mobile are NOT running on the same runtime environment. If they did, they will NOT make 2 versions of the OS and desktop apps would be running in Mobile.
What they did is to simply make the UI almost the same for both and to have a mobile version of selected apps

It's coz of the Dollar vs. Ruble due to recent events that changes the economic battles between the two currencies. An Iphone would cost double as much as that compared to other countries. For Windows phone its coz its cheap hence small fluctuations in price would be less felt

Unfortunately, MS wasn't able to really solve on that gap.
They still ended up with different versions of Windows 10 (separate for Mobile and Desktop) and simply identified common apps to be used for both (MS Office 360, Viber, etc)
This is different to what they had originally intended... to have a fully functioning desktop OS in a mobile platform.
