Not so much anymore when they switched hands. Just look at how long the first gen Moto X got updated to Lollipop. Worst, it won't even get Marshmallow.

Sony: They seem to be trying at least, but unless you have the top of the line expensive Z models, forget it. Sony was still releasing KitKat phones when lollipop was already out.

Even with Motorola/Sony/HTC/whatever, you will get maybe 1 OS update at best, and maybe 2 years max before the phone is abandoned. Nexus is pretty much the only way to go, and even then longevity is not guaranteed (Nexus 4 won't get Marshmallow).

For me, MIUI is the best customized android out there, it is very good OS.
MIUI 7 based on kitkat or lollipop does not matter a lot.
Everyone has differenet preference, many like pure android and many others like MIUI or other customized android for some reasons.
                          Anyway, just my 2 cents.

Goku, 04 Dec 2015I hate Miui they should bring cyanogen... OnePlus have nice uiI hate MIUI's resource usage (version 7 is much much better but still far from beating AOSP based ROMs) but I love its comfortable UI and built-in features. It's a dilemma...

Sony? I would say nexus followed by Motorola and HTC. Marshmallow was first found on Nexus and HTC at first.. Thought Motorola released V10 after HTC A9, it didn't come with Android 6.0. Sony is too far

@pika2000 Miui is a fork of android... the idea that Miui versions should be updated as soon as pure android is simply daft.

Anonymous, 04 Dec 2015it will come when google release android NExactly.

OEMs have zero incentive to proactively updating their old devices. They have only one objective, to sell you new devices. We can already see the slow rollout of Lollipop. Heck, Xiaomi themselves release a KitKat phone in 2015. Furthermore, consumers don't want software updates. People are still willingly buying phones with old OS on them. So there you go. If you like guaranteed software updates, Nexus is your only option.
