We should attack the manufacturers not Google for updating the OS.
The manufacturers will not be able to update the OS of 20 phones this year & 40 phones next year .. etc
Quality not quantity :(

You seem to have missed that Windows 7 is actually updated, and despite your "god complex" you are not in control of everything that is bad to be able to avoid it that easily -- all it takes is a picture or video in a reputable site run by people who think like you.
You don't need to be a VIP to be hacked, there's this new thing called "big-data" which essentially requires bulk data from a large group of people to draw some interesting data. Your notion of "let's target just VIPs" is more than obsolete!

That means that fixes which affect the core OS and require a ROM change (Stagefright for instance) are left wide open.

Unlike Windows 7, those Androids are not ge... moreNobody is gonna hack into your phone you're not that special, just use the same common sense you use when you're on Windows 7 or any other desktop OS like not downloading malicious, unofficial or unidentified apps or visiting any bad sites or install some kind of anti-virus software and you should be fine. And if you're using your phone for business then you should be smart enough to buy a phone that is known to update its firmware on a regular basis.

Unlike Windows 7, those Androids are not getting critical security updates (such as the latest nexus bulletin), being effectively devices with widely documented flaws that can be exploited by anyone who wishes to do so.
Unless your definition of "rock steady" includes having more holes than a swiss cheese, using one of such devices for your daily-life business is the opposite of smart -- cybercriminals are thankful though.

Most people simply don't care what version of the Android OS they are using. As long as it works for what they want it, they just don't care. You can try to make it a big deal, but the companies aren't going to care if 95% of their customers don't care.

Other reason why I don't care about android updates is that I (and majority of consumers) will change my phone every 12-18 month (24 at most), and for that reason I will never be locked down in phone which will never receive update. That is exactly the case for me.. I had S2, S3, S4, Note3, S5 and Now S6 edge all of the devices at the time were always on latest versions. The only let down is that my work A3 is on Kitkat.. being relatively new phone and I would expect it to be on Lollipop.. but I couldn't care less either because it is my work phone and kitkat is till much more advanced than any other (non-android OS). I n some way I even like kitkat more than lollipop e.g. customisable lock screen gadgets.

lesson learn, if you want an updated android phone then get a nexus phone, OEM's just abandon mid to low end devices, maybe the mid rage device gets ONE upgrade in its life time, or just get an iOS :p
