Oculus Rift is finally up for pre-order, priced at $599

As anticipated, the Oculus Rift has become available for pre-order today. The VR headset can be yours for $599, and it will start shipping to 20 countries on March 28. You'll find it at select retailers in the US starting in April.

Don't forget this is not a stand alone device...you need a Pc with high end specs to run it:
"In order to work, the Rift must be connected by a cable to a PC running Microsoft Windows that will run the software. This computer should be equipped with a powerful GPU at least equivalent to a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD R9 290, and a CPU at least equivalent to Intel i5-4590" (Wikipedia)
If Sony can issue their VR headset at a lower price and have it work correctly with the PS4 they will make a killing with a bundle way under the 1000 dollar mark... Oculus fails in the sense that making a device with such a price and high hardware requirements will keep it caged to only hardcore PC gamers...
