this meant to be the budget LTE chipset. for those who complaining it has weak gpu, just buy the more expensive phone then. why so much complains on BUDGET chipset when there are a lot more choices out there.

AnonD-294887, 26 Jan 2016You are simply not the target group for these SoCs. The ... moreBut interestingly...
They don't make phones only for you...
So you are not living in this world alone and there are people who seeks affordable phones with considerable performance.
Poor people also deserves good phones, not descent but well good enough.
People may don't play games but they have children, or may be future they may need but THEY CAN'T.
Because you can't, and you wanna sell it but No body wants to buy that crap...
    So, your money gone forever...

    Actually...
Adding a good gpu doesn't increase too much soc's unit price, I certainly know that.
    Look at Huawei P8 Lite...
It has Mali400MP4 gpu, that thing is already too weak for this time and for tomorrow it became less than nothing.
    Why they doing that?
    Quick way to become rich...

They could choose Mali T720Mp3 or so, then it will be a very nice phone for the price.
So, it could be useful at least for 3-4 years...
But MALI 400, is a really really really terrible thing!

You might never play any game but it means not everybody same like you.
Or you just may live your own little world, I suggest you wake up.

This is false marketting, people don't know much for the smartphones...
They buy and they screw for Android or smartphone world just because of it.
    Yeah...
You can say, If you don't have money then this is yours...
    Allright...
Why the hell they putting 2 or 4 gb ram for Mali400 than, explain this?

Anonymous, 26 Jan 2016It is impossible to understand these companies... Why they... moreYou are simply not the target group for these SoCs.

The "good things" I use my smartphone for don't involve the GPU in more than displaying the GUI on the screen. I listen to music, browse, read mail and IM, with an occasional video now and then. The videos I watch can either be decoded by the fixed HW decoder, or have to be decoded by the CPU (10bit h264), both of which doesn't involve the GPU either.

As you can see, I didn't mention games - I neither have time nor interest in those, at least on a smartphone. I also don't expect a cheap SoC to have enough power for most of them, that's like expecting an integrated GPU to provide as much power as a high end dedicated one.

For me, Mediatek chips offer enough power to do what I want without costing me a premium like the Qualcomm ones usually do. The only problem with them is the lack of kernel sources, so custom ROMs are very limited.

Anonymous, 26 Jan 2016It is impossible to understand these companies... Why they... moreDude, these chips are for 50$ to 100$ priced phones. If you want more performance then there are Helio x10 or x20 waiting for you. Don't compare a Toyota Corolla with a top class Ferrari.

It is impossible to understand these companies...
Why they allways think no body needs GPU?
I assume their CEO's use his phone only for SMS or Call but there are people that uses phones for some good things.

At least, this time they didn't choose T820 gpu, T860 means not much but still better than T720 or T820.

These chipsets will change everything, especially in upcoming markets where midrangers and affordable phones are what people look for.

Why Mediatek chipsets don't support VoLTE? When they gonna enable this?

Let's hope they add international LTE support, South-America was blessed/cursed to use Band 4 (among others) that are usually used on more expensive phone made for the US
