Anonymous, 08 Feb 2016Nice phone when it was released. Wanted it but now have eve... moreThe problem is that all brand new smartphones are built by Chinese companies, and it's as if they passed on the word to get rid of a few features bad for their business.

For example batteries are rated 1000 cycles or approximately 2 years and a half before the cells go bad and battery life really takes a hit. Almost all new smartphones are built with a metal unibody without user removable battery and are very tricky and expensive to repair. So owners of 2 or 3 years old phones have to decide whether to bring their smartphones to a specialized outlet and spend 200 euros to replace the battery or buy a new phone.

This is why this is getting difficult to find a phone with a few features that were a given a few years ago, like an unlocked bootloader, a big removable battery and micro sdxc card slot among others... And new useful features like buttons not on the side (like on the lg g3 and g4) where i inadvertently click them regularly on my s2 are apparently dropped on the g5.

Words cannot describe how disappointed I was when reading about the many features lacking in the galaxy s6 in 2015. I had hope for cyanogenOS phones to become the new galaxy s2, but alas the zuk z1 and bq aquaris come without user removable battery, and the former without micro sdxc. I think the Indian company that launched the YU Yutopia missed a huge opportunity to create a buzz with a feature complete smartphone. Now I am waiting for the lg g5...

        'Old but not Obsolete'

Using it since 2012 till date without screen-guard and back cover. working flawlessly. only needs to reformat once a year or so....
Just hate 2GB partition on it. Any way to remove that?

By the way, I am European and bought the i9100 which is the international version of the galaxy s2.

You have to search for your device here:
              https://wiki.cyanogenmod.org/w/Devices#searchable=%22galaxy%20s%20ii%22;

Download an app on the store to know which one you have if you don't already know.

Sohnna, 06 Feb 2016how can I update it, please, experts help meIn the article news, you will find a link to the cyanogenmod website. There, click the link called i9100 device wiki, i9100 being the galaxy s2. Read thoroughly.

I suggest you refrain from installing the brand new and probably not ironed out cm13 and instead install the cm12.1.

Download the latest cm12.1 and the smallest google apps package available, as the s2 system partition size is very small. Read once more the wiki, install cm12.1 and the google apps by following the instructions. Then go to the store and download the google apps you need (mail, maps etc...). Later on you can go to the cyanogen forums and read about changing the system partition size.

Do you know whether cm12.1 comes with trim ? Just in case i used trimmer beforehand...
Side note, my emmc has the superbrick bug :/

Yes this galaxy s2 is an awesome smartphone ! Yet i want to update to a lg g5 or another phone with removable battery. :)

You are kidding right ? This is a super amoled screen, RGB not pentile, which offers probably a better quality than the s3.

800x480 on 4.3" and text looks good, and videos are beautiful.

S2 owner: this thing with the cm12.1 snaphot is just awesome (5.1.1). Rock stable, and it just flies with a kernel that supports trim.
Pushes about 17k in the latest antutu (6).
                              Big props to cyanogen.

The display on the S2 looks awful now, but I could get days of usage from the ROM I was using with it's power saving features.

good news for s2 holders, still decent phone, remeber the time when for me this device was huge compared to my old iphone 3gs,now days i have the lg G2 and i dont see it that big... cyanogen is a good option for install roms, i guess that if u have the s2 with jellybean should go for kit kat, unfortunately we lose a lot when putting a stock rom.camera processing and features .....
