Samsung has been doing this for years. When I lived in Korea I had a Galaxy S2, which didn't have the logo on the front. I think part of it is that the brand is so ubiquitous there, they don't even need to show the logo on the thing, everybody just assumes it's a Samsung.

I remember a previous report saying that instead of the Samsung logo, they will just have the Galaxy logo. But I'm not sure if that is related to this.

alf, 27 Feb 2016wow ... what about samsung ideas borrowed by apple ?Borrowed by Apple? yeah right, you know in my country, local companies do this and those which have actually the same design like iPhone looks exactly like them.
Brand name on the front (top or bottom) gives the product its Father's name, avoiding that makes it one of the phones from the lot from the local market.

                    Dear Samsung India,

As per the schedule published on the Portals, you have announced that the So Called Flagship a.k.a. Note Phablet version 4.0 @ N910G will get the Android M alias Marshmallow ver. 6.0.1 by February 2016 month end. Today it is 27th.. When will I receive the so called OTA update..
                    Waiting patiently..
It was to be in India by January Month End.. Not Yet till Feb Month End.. But Why..? When are we supposed to get the version..? LG, Motorola, Sony have got upgraded to 6.1, Samsung Still stuck at 5.0.1

I think there is some awkward rule.. Previously when I had Nokia (Microsoft Mobile Now), It had no updates, Note Series upgraded its versions faster than the design. LG, Sony, HTC have removed the Hardware Keys but Samsung still has the Old School Design :((

Please Please Please Upgrade 5.0.1 to 6.0.1 atleast by March 2nd Week.. !!

                    Thank you GSM Arena

Chen, 26 Feb 2016It's all about contracts and/or banned/restricted chipsets/... moreWrong.... They do these things to limit cross region selling. Doesn't have anything to do with patents. When Nokia was around they only made one version of each phone and so is Apple.

Its all money making and control for phone makers who make different version for different regions.

Every company should do that, the logo is distraction. It's all about screen, Apple understood that since first iPhone. You should only see the screen, not white logos everytime when you look your screen.

The Samsung logo is big and ugly, it should change to other logo like SAM or SUNG.
If they won't put the samsung logo front of the phone, it simply looks like a China phone.

E.g. with Sony removing the Fingerpring scanner on the Z5, it had to do with an FCC mandate that prevented them from using their scanner since it went against one (or a few) of their regulations.
The article was here in GSMA.
I guessthe more powerful the company is (like Apple), they can set their own rules.
The ones playing by the rules (like Samsung, and other OEMs) are the ones that have more work to deal with, which in turn, pisses off alot of customers since they can't get the preferred variant that is only available in XYZ country.
