Sprint decided to bring back the 2 year contract, but why?

Sprint's new-fangled option to purchase a new cellular plan under a 2 year contract raises some eyebrows and questions.

its a free phone. they are offering a galaxys6 for $0 until 3-31-16. vs the payment option of $25 month for 24 months....who wouldn't take the 2 year contract....ive always taken the $1 phones....for my 6 years with sprint(3 contracts)....i keep cars for 10 years and phones for 2 years....no need to upgrade every time something new comes out.....that is a waste of money.

It's really that ... moreunfortunately customers don't realize they are paying a higher rate plan as well with the $45.00 access per smartphone on plan so when you do the math they are paying full price and then another half of that over 24 months.

      Many people prefer on contract pricing . It's really that simple. Sprint is offering contract pricing because the other major carriers don't.

              I have sprint and they are the only carrier to offer truly unlimited data. I use a rooted HTC One M8 as a wifi Hotspot and can rack up well over 100gb of data a month, so in that respect, they have me as at customers

                I work for a wireless carrier and some people wont just understand about financing, they think they're being rip off

                  It's all about providing something different that your than your competitors. Business 101. Will it work? I doubt it. Not much you can do to win over customers when your network coverage blows.

                    Or, going out on a limb here, maybe getting the good credit rating to get into that lease thing isn't as universal or easy as some may put it, therefore people choose the carrier's "own credit" which is spread across the 2yr contract.

                    Just sayin'...

                      Why? Maybe because Sprint doesn't know what they are doing, so next best thing is just do what they had done in the past.

                        If all of the speculation in this article about why Sprint brought back the two year contract were true, then T-Mobile wouldn't have done so well getting new customers by being the first to drop the contract. It makes no sense that the very thing that attract new customers to T-Mobile, drive them away and Sprint.

                        It is much more likely that Sprint is freaking out about losing customers and wants to lock them in for 2 years, which was always the reason for contracts--customer retention. Of course, we live in a different era in which everyone else has dropped the contract. So this just seems like a desparate/myopic/dumb move on Sprint's part. But companies do dumb things all the time, so why not Sprint?

                          Sprint took way too long to roll out LTE and are way behind, it is too late for them.

Its network became more and more unreliable around the time the iPhone came out for Sprint in September of 2011.
