LG G5, Galaxy S7 and Nexus 6P go under chipset stress test to find who's the hottest

14 April, 2016
To do so, 3DMark Slingshot and Geekbench 3 do the heavy lifting, while an app monitors the temperatures reported by the phones' sensors and an external thermometer keeps an eye on readings.

compared to SD820 and 8890, kirin 950 is the best performance under heaveay load.

I meant by gamer: everybody that enjoys games, for me I remember once I spend an hour playing an android game, so considering this rate of throttling, it would be terrible to continue playing for just over half an hour

The most power hungry apps/games are the DosBox emulators: they are PC (x86) emulators to run PC windows games on mobile.

This article does not mention the fact that Galaxy S7 has a big advantage: it has heatsink pipe cooling system.

AnonD-442781, 15 Apr 2016You're making a very weird argument. The reason why it has ... moreIt has similar performance cause toptier games at this moment are less power hungry. Like, laimly explained.. They use about 200 gflop power tops
Mali performs well now, with games present at this moment, but is not as future proof as adreno because games will get more power hungry... They'll go higher resolution etc, and then mali will show the burdens of its inferior gflop power.

                  Its plain logic man..

Anonymous, 15 Apr 2016its not an opinion, if the soc cant handle heat correctly t... moreWasnt it said that it is adreno that heats up, not sd part?
Of course you have to incorporate the cooling system to better performance, like on any chip
Mali is much weaker than adreno, about 40-50%, therefore heats up less, therefore throttles equivalentl less, not 40% but only 25%...

It boggles me that you people dont recognize the physics and math in these facts

The reason why it has its current performance is because it is so power hungry, and that's the reason why it throttles. The Mali GPU has similar performance without being so power hungry.

You telling us how power hungry it is, is just telling us that its worse. I don't see how you managed to interpret it as meaning the adreno is better.

Tann Hauser, 15 Apr 2016Oh, it means a lot... That kind of power IS the reason it ... moreits not an opinion, if the soc cant handle heat correctly then you wont see the full performance in which case it means nothing. I have an i7 processor in my pc overclocked to 4.6 ghz with an aftermarket cooler, now if I put the stock cooler on it, i wont get the same performance, coz it will throttle or ill have to put the clock back down, im sure the 8890 could clock higher but the performance you get from it is great already and it throttles less then the 820, if the 8890 was clocked higher the it would throttle just like the 820. the bigger advantage tho is the 8890 is much more efficient when it comes to battery life

Anonymous, 15 Apr 2016the doesn't mean anything, the adreno could be higher clock... moreOh, it means a lot...
That kind of power IS the reason it heats more and throttles more. If mali had the same it would behave exactly the same.
There are no game apps yet to show out the power difference between the two.
Of course heatsink solutions are also necessary for these cpus to throttle less.
But all in all, adreno is much more capable than mali...even within g5 lousy engineering approach

you have a right to your opinion tho...

Tann Hauser, 15 Apr 2016Not really http://kyokojap.myweb.hinet.net/gpu_gflops/ ... morethe doesn't mean anything, the adreno could be higher clock than normal to get that, real wold performance is what matters and there's not much difference, after 30 mins I would say the 8890 would be higher in performance due to it dealing with heat better and not throttling as much

                                AnonD-442781, 15 Apr 2016Not really. Adreno 530 got 46 fps, Mali t880 got 39. So if ... moreNot really

Christian, 14 Apr 2016"you can install a custom kernel n downclock that adreno 53... moreYes my friend it's easily possible.

What more, even within a month you can get a customized kernel/ROM for HTC 10 with an app to see and modify the stages of Adreno 530's clock speed levels.

Depending on the workload the adreno 530 would increase its clock speed. (Or for the matter even mali or any gpu, holds good for cpus also).

Highest speed is say 650Mhz with say x amount of voltage.
There will be 500Mhz with x-1 volts.
                                    400Mhz with x-2 volts.
The max voltage applied, max heat is produced.

If we figure out that the Adreno 530 at 500Mhz (one step down) doesn't throttle for 1hr straight, we can set it to reach 500mhz max, instead of top 650Mhz.

Depends on the user, if I feel that all my favourite games are easily playable by Adreno 530 at 350Mhz, not getting hot or throttled, straight for an hour, I would set it permanently at 350Mhz. There will be a step for it in the custom kernel app.

Note that here Adreno 530 with 350Mhz might be faster than what gpus in kirins and helios can offer.
Another factor is, this kind of dev support may not be available for helios and kirins, definitely not for exynos. As Snapdragon is very open source, easy to mod.

What I am saying is, we need not dismiss adreno 530 and go back to kirin and Helios whose gpus are made for FHD screens not for QHD screens.

Be sure to chose HTC 10, it will be more supported by community than lg g5.
