PuzzlePhone are expecting to start consumer shipments in September, around the time Google are releasing the very few devkits so they're already behind with a less modular phone.

People would best avoid the first generation of devices. Unless they have lots of spare cash lying around.

                Good idea...liked it...
But the first device will be a disaster...
But in the future it will rock...i assume

And im really concerned about the durability of the device...will it hold all the modules in rough situations... :(

So, after many delays, many years of waiting and many promises we might - just might - get half of them. Well done Google.
The interchangeable chipset and RAM were a couple of the biggest selling points of this but we're still going to be told how much power we 'need' and with only 6 slots we're not going to have the choice in parts either - at this point at least and how long until they actually give us what they've said? 2 generations? 3, 4?
Unfortunately for Google, they have taken too long to give too little. This is no different from nexpaq - which is already in production and ready to order for the top phones and preorder for more.
We have PuzzlePhone nearly up and ready for release and that lets you change the chipset and RAM.
There are a couple of others out there that are in competition with ARA and Google as well that are nearing release.

When I first heard about this - as PhoneBloks - I was really excited by what this could mean for phones in the future but it has been delayed - through faults and production issues - so many times now that they've lost any initiative that they had and the competition have taken the lead.
I'm still excited for this and want it to succeed - I really do - but I get the feeling others are going to do it first and better.

                      > you probably won't be able to swap out the chipset, battery, or display

                      Why is it needed then?

So, this project is still alive? With the mobile industry moving fast nowadays, i thought the Ara phone are long forgotten and dead.

Looks like it'll fall apart like a jigsaw puzzle if you dropped it.
