I could never trust Microsoft again. They just don't get it and they let down a lot of people who defended them. They torn up Nokia and left it in the gutter and walked away without a word.

Your right Carol.... I had a Symbian phone and really enjoyed the control. With Windows it has been much different.

A dung user that could never use a pc properly, he could also not use Symbian system properly. Hence the automated things that got hyped so quicly. Apple knew peopple aren't that smart for a real smartphone, so gave them the "first smartphone" that was actually a future phone with touch screen. Apple actually destroyed the quality of the systems out there and their capabilities of working with files and apps.

Nothing to do with file explorer.. File explorer allows you to manage your files better especially if you use your phone as an external storage.. Symbian allows computers to explore all C: drive, D: drive and E:(sdcard) drive on your phone.. While android only allows sdcard to be read from pc.. So much for a smart OS

It is the number one app I install on a phone. I find it to be the best - functions and looks. Just try it. You won't regret!
Everyone is so into ES File Explorer, but I simply hate the colors and design..

Symbian is way more advanced than an... moreIt is very easy for a producer of OS to provide a file explorer: they do not want on purpose because they wish to promote a market of paid apps through their own store and get revenue from each app sold. Having full file explorer allowing software installation will kill the app store profitability, for app store owner. It is about greed and money making for OS producer, not about quality and confort for phone owner.

Jumping ship to Windows Phone 7 *only* was very risky from the start. The death of MeeGo was also fatal considering people loved the N9. The only good thing Elop managed to do was the Asha line and the Asha platform, which managed to achieve good success in developing markets, but otherwise Lumia was a big fail, even though some models were really good phones.

Native file explorer, task manager all existed since first generation Symbian.. And the latest android still does not have a file explorer.. Symbian apps can be installed wholly on memory card.. Heck Symbian can even hot swap memory cards back then.. Try and do that with an android.. LOL

Perhaps Nokias 7710 released 2 years before the very first iPhone was among what caught Steve Jobs eye and got him going. Because all it was missing more or less is aesthetically pleasing looks like the iphone with a simple look with a single button instead of those of a game console with frightening buttons. If just Nokia had seen the importance of looks... But other large companies missed the boat too. Microsoft at one time claimed to have no interest in the internet. And later did not think that a phone without a keyboard had any future.

I think it must have been good if they must have worked hard on Symbian OS update. As it was there own so no need to pay any one should not have been gone on sale.

Unfortunately poor management also existed before Elop's arrival (in fact he arrived because of it).
Nokia should have been the pioneering company of the smart internet phone because they had the knowhow but not the vision (and they were complacent too of course).
Steve Jobs picked up from Nokia what he had picked up from Xerox before ... because he has vision and courage to use someone else’s idled knowhow and innovation. They (Nokia and Xerox ) pioneered the applied science and technology and Apple pioneered the decision and PRODUCTION.
