Opera's battery saver feature is now out of beta and available to all desktop users

08 June, 2016
Opera has definitely had its glory days and was once a formidable force on the web browser scene. Sadly, nowadays, its popularity is down to a select few loyal fans and as most will likely tell you, few companies have actually contributed as many innovations to the realm as Opera has over the years.

I've been using Opera ever since I had a computer and internet access, which is over a decade now.
It's true that nobody ever made as many innovations for browsers as Opera did - hell, they were the ones to come up with browser tabs, to say the least.
I have to admit that before the chromium "reboot", the engine was a pretty memory hog... But after migrating to chromium, they've been slowly adding features in.
Personally I have been with the browser even after the migration when it went bare-bones for a bit as well - and I can honestly say that Opera is now better than ever.
This feature is just another one lovely to add to the heap, assuming you're a laptop user.
Hell, if you can force it on (I guess you can) then you can make browsing even better on machines which aren't up to today's standard as well!

Opera is underrated. It is the best browser for data savings and has an intuitive clean interface. I use it as my secondary browser after Safari and it has never let me down. Chrome and Firefox, I wouldn't touch with a ten foot pole.

ok, so I've just downloaded it and I can say it's waaay better than chrome and it's very good with high dpi scaling and touch interface. It also has some neat feautures on youtube like pop-out video. And it's better looking, it seems like it's integraded with windows 8 or 10. I just hope it will not have the many bugs that chrome has

Even without it, opera always give me WAY more battery time than chrome, especially on linux.
Chrome is nothing more than shadow of what it was at first. And Opera is only chromium based browser that still fallow idea behind it: small fast browser with features that you really need, not only bunch of resource hungry build in addons.

Opera have all you need beside speed and stability: syncing with mobile version, turbo mode if you use mobile internet and build in addblock, and way better download manager
