Its been years already and anybody with half a brain knows MIUI is about as Android as Xiaomi pretends for it to be but really MIUI is pretty much MIOS by now with so many exclusive features that it takes a brand new Android or iOS version to keep up with it. Like Night Shift on iOS9.3 or App Permissions on Android 6.0 or Fraud Detection on the upcoming Android Nougat and iOS10. I'm gonna guess Second Space and App Cloning will come out for Android O and iOS11
The days when people could get away with saying Xiaomi is copying off Apple are long over.

I chose Xiaomi because I can't bear the appearance of Android components - especially the vanilla's primitive icons and fragmented look which lacks any cohesion.
And no matter what version, it's always silky smooth, quick and simply works. With MIUI8, it's going to be even more uniform.

They could be running off 4.4.4 and you wouldn't notice it. Miui is a separate entity as it completely covers the underlying Android, so you see 0% of material design. Nothing of the Google to be exact.
I don't understand why the bitching, if you're not gonna see the difference anyway. Unless you want it to look good on paper or show your friends you're running the lastest Android.
I'm using Xiaomi for years now and i couldn't care less which Android they're running. Some of the things they do with MIUI are their own take and you can't find them in Google clean versions. Besides Minote for example with 6.0 looks exactly the same regarding software as Mi4c for example with Lollipop. I've used those 2 on Miui7. I can't see Android anywhere, only MIUI.

Just because some people are saying they won't use this feature, doesn't mean that nobody will use it. Split Screen Multitasking is an awesome feature, from my point of view because you can use two applications side by side and it would be really useful for big screen Xiaomi phones as it would utilize the big screen very well. Lite mode, child mode etc are all great features. And now with parallel space, you can clone an app in MIUI 8. I've been using MIUI 7 since a few months and it offers plenty of customization options, looks elegant and no lag whatsoever. Looking forward to MIUI 8. I'd anyday prefer MIUI over TouchWiz or any OEM's skin on top of Android OS. Hats off to Xiaomi.
