Nvidia already put maxwell on legacy list, it'll only get critical bug fix only without any optimization on newer games / app (it still do well in older games). get 10xx series instead, or amd cards if you don't care small increase in electrical bill. Nvidia card is better if you upgrade each 1-2 years because they stop optimize older card way sooner than amd

Also you do not need a new motherboard to use the new video cards. I would suggest Rx 480 for $199 if you plan to switch.

You put a good cpu with a terrible gpu. ... moreYes my main focus is fast and vast architectural renders, which doesn't employ a GPU for most of the software I work on. GPU I need for a little bit of Premiere Pro and After Effects and recreational gaming. To fit everything in my $1000 budget at the time I would have had to sacrifice my CPU (4790 - i just checked) to an i5 (6MB L3 cache vs my current 8MB) and that would have really slowed down my rendering process.
@Hamedans: But won't a 10 series GPU require a newer motherboard than my current ASUS Haswell one?

It is a cool, quiet card with low TDP and good performance. Couple that with my i7 4790 (I think or is it 4690) andbI have a good rendering rig and an adequate gaming rig. I'm currently thinking of adding a GTX 980 by next year, what would you suggest?

so rx 460 now compete with gtx 750ti, thats good news to us who buy oem desktop with low wattage psu. i hope Nvidia will release successor of 750ti soon
